what's a 4000lb winch cost new? anyone have this kind of thing attached to their truck? thanks. scott.

I would look at something bigger than a 4k myself. I would reccommend a 8k at the least.



I bought my 8k warn rep8000 for $325 on sale a couple of years ago.

The rule of thumb is to get a winch rated 1 & 1/2 times the weight of your GVWR. So I think you'd be SOL if you got really stuck and were dependent on a 8K winch. I'd look into a 9K or 10K winch. Trust me the extra $$ is well spent if you get burried in a hole and DON'T burn it up pulling yourself out. :--)

Biggers better

Summit Racing has a 15k Patriot Ramsey for just under $1200, with wireless remote. I had a 12k Ramsey on the front of my 93 W350 Dually, and it just barely got me out when I buried my truck, pulling a 27' 5er, up at Heron Lake 8 years ago.

If your just going for the 'look', try a superwinch 9000, they have a large case that will fill up the hole in a winch bumper, and are fairly inexpensive (@700. 00). If your going for the real deal, a 15k Warn or Ramsey is the ticket, although the Warn is a few bucks more. Summit has an M8000 Warn for 620. 00.

Phillip, "REP" winches are made by Ramsey, that's what I had on my 93, a REP12000. That was a great price, for either winch, though.

bigger = better

... get the biggest that you can, i have a 12k pound ramsey and have strained it a time or two. never stalled it though. a 4k pound wich will barely tighten up the cable for our trucks!!

The winch on my Sami is bigger than that. GVWR on the Sami is about 3000#, the winch is rated at 6000#. I wouldn't put any than smaller than 12000# on my Ram. In fact, I will probably put a 15000# winch on when I get one for the Ram. The bigger the rating, the less it will have to work. If you were to sink you truck to it's frame, you would probably have difficulty extracting yourself with even a 15000# winch.
