Anyone else out there favor the model 88 ? I own a number of deer rifles and I always go back to the model 88 in . 308. Quick handling and very accurate with handloads. The only drawback I see is the heavy trigger.

I collect Winchesters,Model 94's,Model 88's and Pre-64 Model 70's and have 4 Model 88's. I have them in . 243(2),. 284 and . 358 Winchester. They are some of the finest shooting lever actions I own but I do not allow them out in weather anymore due to their values. The . 243's and . 308's were very pleasant shooters but the . 284 and . 358's had some shoulder bite to them. Nice shooter that Winchester dropped out of their product line in 1973.

The Winchester 88 and the Model 100 were very popular here in Canada. The same rifle except ones lever the other semi. The heavy trigger probably stems from the fact they used the same trigger parts in both so it was heavy for the sake of safety in the semi auto.

My Dad bought a Model 100 the first year they were out, around 1960. I now have it and it is my main deer rifle.

Our deer camp has ten fellas and half are using Model 100's in 308. The model 88 wasn't as popular as the 100 and you see very few around. Like yourself they are well like and coveted by those who have them. They are pricey when you do see one.
