I just picked up my 04 Quad Cab CTD last week and love the truck. 1 question though, when I'm up at around 40mph and up and open the rear windows, I get a buffeting condition that is quite pronounced, it shakes the truck quite noticeably. The severity of this condition is either exagerated or diminished depending how high or low I raise the windows. Opening the rear slider provides some relief, however not much. This doesn't happen with the 4 windows closed. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tony

Mine does it too. As far as I know, they all do.

I don't have the rear slider, but opening one of the front windows cuts it down, too.

Thumping

I have to crack the slider or the drivers window when my 2 1/2 year old is in the back. He loves to open the window and alway yells "ears hurt" if I dont.

My step dad has a chevy that does the same thing. Nothing can be done about it I guess.

If I'm not mistaken, your ears are feeling the increase in pressure b/c you've just introduced a ram-air scoop into your cabin without giving it any way out.

I've always found that if your gonna open one window in a car/truck then you'll wanna crack 'em all a bit to soften the pressure.

Similarly, if you open your drivers window and your passenger starts complaining of the breeze hitting him/her, just ask them to open up theirs a bit and it will push your breeze back a bit and balance out. The person sitting in the back center seat may not appreciate it though... .

There is a section in the owner's manual that warns owners about driving with the rear window down and experiencing the 'helicopter sound'.

Conversely, if the passenger is not considerate enough to put that window up when it's cold out, you can open yours to force the air on them, and force them to close their window... It's a game around these parts in the fall...

Thanks to all for the quick replies. I've been to excited driving the truck to actually read the manual yet. I just picked it up last week and love the truck.

I commonly drive with the driverside rear window cracked about 1/8 to 1/4 of the way down. This is my first truck with air conditioning and I tend to fall back to the old style window ventilation as default. Plus it gives the dogs fresh air to sniff.

Anyway, there isn't a buffeting problems with just one window partially rolled down, IMHE (in my humble experience :) )
