#@$%! On the way back from my trip to Idaho and the infamous breakin of my truck, I have discovered that I have wind noise coming in on the drivers side. With a cross wind from right to left the drivers door (window frame) starts to try and pull away from the cab. You can actually see the window frame flex away and the noise is so loud you can't even think. Comming out of Kennewick headed to Umatilla and down the Columbia Gorge. Have not been to the dealer yet. Looking for advice as to if this is just an adjustment of the hinge or something worse. Anybody got any ideas. :( :(

Gorge = Hurricane

Mundgyver, that sounds pretty strange. Less than 2 weeks ago I drove from Kennewick thru the gorge to Biggs junction and had a horrendous headwind, but even driving 75mph into the gale my doors/windowframes stay nice and sealed. I was running 10-14psi boost to maintain 75 that day.

Have you tried opening the door when you're parked and flexed on the window frame? I would look around for cracks in the welds/metal. When the door is shut, does everything line up and are the body gaps even? Is all the weatherstripping OK and in place?

Good luck,

Vaughn

That rippin' wind in the Columbia River Gorge makes for some of the best windsurfing in the continental US. I take at least one trip there a year to surf my brains out.

In strong crosswinds I have noticed what you are talking about just a little but it isn't very loud. It sounds like yours is out of wack.

Same thing happened three days ago with a strong crosswind. Haven't looked into it yet. Never heard it before.

 Yep it only does it on the drivers side. I've looked at the doors and I can see a very small differance in the alignment. Will hit the dealer in the morning and see what they can do. Will let you know what happens after that.

Open door, roll down window, pull top of window frame in as much as you dare and see if it helps next time in that situation. Helped mine. Do a search, whole procedure there somewhere.

mundgyver

check the bottom latch on the quad door. my drivers door doesn't close real tight either and I found that the latch on the quad door was loose and causing the main door to be loose. Haven't fixed mine yet but i'll get to it one of these days.

Take a dollar bill and close it in the top of the door, between the door and cab. Pull on it and see if it is held tightly. If door is adjusted right it should hold tightly. Do that every 4-6 inches around the top of the door, and you will note the areas where the door isn't sealing.

Then roll the window down and, bracing the door with your knee or your body, pull the top of the door in toward the cab. The idea is to bend the door in just a little, then test it with the dollar bill again.

I've done it like this many times, as 25 years ago I worked in an auto-glass shop. Just be sure to roll the window down.

:Oo. Well I took a close look at it and found that the top of the quad door was a little loose. I pulled the cover off the top latch loop (roof) and found that I could make an adjustment. Moved it inboard 1/8 inch and closed the door. Nice and tight with no slop. Closed the drivers door and still had some play in it. I moved the drivers door latch loop (mounted on the quad door) in 1/16 of an inch. Took a drive up the gorge with the wife and had dinner at Multanoma Falls. Head wind going up the gorge was sever. No wind noise around the drivers door now:D :D I lwill leave it this way and see how it does in the long term. My curosity is up though as to how much low pressure is generated on the side of the truck during a cross wind situation? It is alot better now. Thanks all for the ideas and suggestions. :)

We went through there Christmas day, and the head wind was tremendous. It worked it's way between the cab and topper. The sound was a little nerve-racking as I waited for my topper to explode. I actually had to slow down to below 70 MPH:rolleyes: Not too soon either. There was a Trooper in a white Z28 Camaro on an over pass just waiting for me:eek: The guy behind me decided that he wanted to show how much powere his toyota had and blew the doors off my cummins:rolleyes: . . . . So did the white Camaro:D

Happens on my truck all of the time. Door is tight until i get a crosswind & I can put a finger up there and feel it flex at the top of the door. Happens at 70+MPH driving speed with crosswinds. It flexes at least 1/4".

All those sage suggestions above and also check to see that the door gasket mounted to the frame is not sagging down and allowing more airflow.

ok, so how does one "adjust" the driver's door of a 96 2 door? thanks. scott.

Loosen the upper hinge on the door side, pull the door in a little and tighten the bolts. (the bolt holes are slotted. ) Made a huge difference in my truck.
