Window fogs up

My truck is 6 months old but when I jump into the the truck front window is clear. The minute I start it the front window fogs up and I need to put the blower on high to clear it off. Anybody notice this with their truck? It's not that big of deal unless you had to drive right away.

Mine has never done that. Do you smell antifreeze - like from a leaking heater core? Craig too

I'm with Craig Schomer, that would be my guess, too. I had that happen on my '79 F250. Fogged windshield on startup, plus the smell of coolant = bad heater core. Your truck is still new, could be just a loose fitting. Or, if there's no coolant smell, maybe something is preventing a/c moisture from draining out.

The same thing happens in my truck too. I have only had it happen in the Seattle area and it seems to happen on the misty, wet 40-50 deg mornings. The defrost will add a heavy layer of fog on the window when the fan is turned on but you can also see that some of it came out of the defrost vent overnight too. Usually by the time I get a sitting spot cleared out for my girlfriend (reg cab problem) and get my seatbelt on the fog is gone. There are lots of drips on the ground from the a/c box draining so I know that isn't plugged. I imagine it could be fixed by turning the fan on with the floor vents first, then turning it to defrost 30 sec later. I'm not thinking that fast in the morning though.

That's my solution. It is caused by condensation in the heater core area.

i also had this happen for a few months . windexed the hell out of it ,this helped but a good auto glass cleaner fixed it. must be something from factory . it seemed clean but this worked for me. good luck.

CFowler has a good point. Clean the interior of your windows with Windex or Glass Plus but DON'T use either with the "smell good" stuff in them. That will streak your windows. This will help stop fogging when it's rainy or on startup (assuming there are no heater core leaks as mentioned). Make sure your drain is not stopped up for the AC condensation. Also, I leave mine switch set on ouside air, dash vents and it doesn't fog and I'm in Savannah where 85% humidity is a dry day.

I've got a couple things to add that haven't been mentioned. First, this is why all manufacturers run the AC compressor with the defrost on. The cold AC evap will condense a lot of the moisture out of the air and you will see it coming out the case drain. A lot of folks disable the compressor from coming on in defrost. Second, is that we are a good source of moisture to condense on the cool glass, all the hot air from our mouth (some more than others?)also wet carpet, etc; so make sure it's drawing outside air in the winter.



I sometimes have trouble with snow entering the system after the truck is somewhat warmed up. If I completely clean off the hood and cowl area before taking off, it ain't too bad.

I do live in the Seattle area which does have alot of moisture. I'll try the floor vent trick and make sure window is totally clean. Thanks for all the reply's.
