I used a 1 inch hole saw to make three holes in the inner door pannel to allow me to R&R the window motor. This saves me ten steps according to the Dodge FSM

I cleaned out all the pieces of plastic gear and old lube by removal of the gear case from the motor. The worm gear was full of plastic bits. :(

My motor would operate but the window would not move. Make sure the glass is FREE to travel up/down the track. If it is binding, the new plastic gear will suffer destruction.

There is a dust shield held onto the gear case with one small screw. Please note that the small "O" ring is placed over/onto the gear case shaft.

My truck had a single rivet (along with the three screws) located at the base of the motor. I drilled the rivetmout with a 1/4" bit and sustituted a 1/4" stove bolt in place of rivet.

Another hint would be... ... ... ... . do not remove motor if the regulator is out of the door without securing the arm. It will cause severe bodily harm. That spring has a lot of energy, the arm can become a guillotine ;) It is also worth mentioning to be sure your pilot bit on the holesaw is adjusted short enough so as to not contact the monting bolts :-laf

It's true. I had to pull the drill bit back into the hole saw a good distance cause I didn't want to bottom out the drill bit prior to the saw cutting the hole.

Thanks!

faaaaaaaaaaaaast

On a side note... I can't believe how fast the windows are on my first gen; is this normal? It's almost like someone Tim the Toolman Taylored them.

Well..... I told the wife to have both hands and feet inside the vehicle when she makes the decision to close that sucker!!!

An offroad magazine actually had a power window race between the big three back in the day... ..... a Ramcharger won by a wide margin :D

I found my driver side window to be very fast. When it broke, I pulled it apart only to find the coil spring laying in the bottom of the door. I put in a new motor and re-installed the spring. Put the door together, rolled the window up and down a few times to check it, and POP  the spring shot off and fell to the bottom of the door again. I don't know what the negative effects are, but it sure is fast without it, PLUS, the racer in me feels like I saved some weight :-laf

Yes, that box is from NAPA. The part number published in the TDR magazine some time ago was Sigma I think. It's in issue..... ?????40 perhaps. I crossed that number to my local NAPA jobber and had the part in a day. $21. 00

Cheers,
