2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission window switch

Anybody notice how other DC vehicles have a three-position drivers window switch? Four if you count "off".



Instead of "Auto" or UP you can run the window down normally or "Auto" or UP. I hate the automatic window all-the-way-down thing.



So I'm thinking about swapping switches. Anybody try that already?

Mine has the three positions you describe... It's just hard to feel the down without going too far and hitting the auto.

BY GUM you're right! There is a third position on mine. But it is very hard to use. And the '99 Durango that has the better switch has had a switch replacement done. So I bet it was replaced with the later switch.



Anybody know what year the switch was changed? I'm going to change mine whenever the door panel comes off.



My girlfriend's (DC) car is an 01 or 02 with the better switch.

Pull the switch and you will see it has 2 layers with 3 contacts, one up, one down and one down latching. . I forgot which is which but just use long nose pliers and remove the offending (latching) contacts finger . Then it will go up or down just to where you want it, not where some liberal engineer wants it to go. Kind of like some makes that think you are too stupid to know when to turn your headlits on.

Idiot lights

I finally figured out the lights thing. GM had a huge overrun of the Canadian version of thier lighting systems (Lights on 24/7 when I was in Canuckville--no offense), so they dumped them into the US marked as another one of their gimmicky things for dumbarse Americans. As much as I hate those lights, I wish some folks did know when to turn theirs on.



And I may monkey with the switch... put that on the list. The newer switches have a big easy gap to manipulate, but the older ones only allow about 1/16 inch lever movement before presto-automatic whoopee kicks in.
