Window wind/rain deflectors opinions

So it's officially the rainy season here today, it's been dumping all day.

I've noticed the 3rd Gen door windows really suck for redirecting the rain water. With the window open full or slightly, water spills right on to the window and lock controls.

The only way to fix this is some of those door wind jammer thingies.

I don't like the idea of sticking 2 sided tape on good paint but if it's better quality than the clip style I'll go that way.



Anyone have any prefferances? Brand? Fastening?

I planned on getting a full set from Geno's but I wanted to get some opinions first.

I have the full set of Weathertech deflectors. The fronts don't have any tape at all. They fit inside the sill. The rears fit inside the sill too but thay also have tape to ensure that they stay in place. I really like them.

Thanks, I'll check those out. I like their floor mats and use them in everything but the Dodge. The Dodge has huskys, they last longer.

Some people prefer the outdoors and don't like being shut up in a box on wheels with the AC on. If they'd build vehicles with vertical windows and rain gutters on the roof again, these "ugly window guards" wouldn't be required.



I like the ones that go in the window track vs the stick-on kind. I have them on the front windows. I had a problem with the ones for the rear windows, the window would catch on them and it looked like it was very hard on the weatherstripping when that happened.

I have had the common stick-on type on my windows, as well as the front of the hood since my truck was new. I suppose "beauty" is in the eye of the beholder, but I don't personally feel they detract in the least from the looks of the truck - the window units work excellently - allow the window to be rolled down several inches for ventilation as needed, and also permit the same when the truck is parked outside in summer weather with windows down to allow decent airflow without that visible gap that might encourage breakins...



The window units have completely prevented rain incursion, and the hood protectors provide some aerodynamic windshield protection against bugs and such, as well as protection from rock chip damage.

I actually like the looks of older trucks and liked being able to have the windows all the way down, even on rainy days. Now, every vehicle made seems to have windows that tilt in at the top and a smooth roof with no gutters. Even if it isn't raining, but there is dew on the roof, you get wet when you make a turn with the window cracked open. I also miss the days of floor and window vents when you could be comfortable with the AC off vs today's enclosed, air conditioned boxes where you need to run a fan to get any air at all.

This was part of the question I posted, I have no idea. I did have a set of cheapies on my old D50 and they made no noises.

However I did do a little shopping around. Both Wade and WeatherTech made tapeless kits. The rear windows seem to need a little tape to hold them in place but the tape is not affixed to the exterior paint.

Wade could be gotten from JCWhitless for $50 for the QCs.

The WeatherTechs have two different versions, Ultralight and Dark and the difference besides color is around $6.

I went to a SportsRack today to order the WeatherTechs, the counter jockey told me I had to buy them per set, front doors and rear doors at $59 each. I already checked the WT website and they sell Dark sets for $95, set of four. The SportsRack dork told me $116 and I should have them by Friday the 29th or the following Monday. I told him that's not good enough.

I ordered them from WT direct, 2nd day delivery, total of $113.

I'll let you know Wednesday if they make noise.



BTW, After a hard day playing, say woods riding some 50 miles of trail on a motorcycle it's doesn't matter what I do, my feet reek. I want the window down. Right now I use a small towel on the arm rest to catch the water that can easily get inside my door controls.

I like the weather guards for all the reasons mentioned above. I also had them on my 2001. 5 CTD. One thing I DON"T like is that they widen the already wide blind spot created by the A pillar. I've had a couple close calls when the A pillar plus the added width of the shield blocked my vision of a car.

Update,

I got the weathertechs today, it took around 5 minutes to install all four. I haven't road tested yet cause they came late but they look great. Very close to the window, not those huge bulging things. The rears bulge a little. I'll see if they're noisy in the morning. I could take a pic or two also if anyone is interested.

I bought mine from the dlr (stick-ons) and they seem to work really well and do what they are supposed to do. Had them on my '99 and no problems after 98k miles. If You don't have something the wind tends to muss up your (wife's) hair, you know.

I think you'll like the Weathertechs, I really like them on my 03. I've had the stick ons on the past 2 trucks and liked those fine as well. The biggest complaint I'd heard on the stick ons is the fact that they stick on, from extremely anal individuals, and that the stick on didn't stick for some reason. Not preparing the surface properly or trying to apply in subzero temps are the main culprits from what I can tell.

The WeatherTechs are no noisier than without them, infact they have a sweet spot where the air is quieter than without them, ( just as the window's edge comes even with the vent). They look alot nicer than the stick-ons.

If it's quiet you can hear the window's upper seal compressing a little to make room for both the vent and the glass, no extra effort for the power window.

Now I just need it to start raining again.

Any one try the chrome type? Not metal, but chromed plastic.
