Barracks....Now this is funny!

Need some help from a computer nerd that has access to a computer with Windows 98 SE. Email me at -- email address removed --. My computer hard drive crashed and I'm trying to salvage some data files to a zip disk, but have some corrupted system files. I won't be able to respond evenings as the internet computer thingy is ka-put.

Thanks for all the emails and offers to help.

I finally found the files I needed on the Win 98 CD. They were in a hidden directory and mapped to drive R:. The drive has hardware damage and is beyond repair, but I am able to copy the data files to a zip disk in dos mode. I have ordered a new drive, but it will still be a while before I get it installed and working.

I went out to Circuit City last night looking at new sub-notebooks. Not a very smart thing to do since we don't have much extra $$$ right now for stuff like that, but I found one that I like. It's a Sharp SHA MV12W. Very small, about 4 lbs, has a built-in RW CD/DVD, 40 GB hard disk (I think), and a 1. 18 Ghz PIII (I think) processor. It would be perfect for keeping up on the forums while traveling. Anyone know anything about Sharp notebooks? It's not the name I would think of in computers.

Thanks

Ken

Sharp doesn't actually make the motebook. The vast majority of notebook PCs are made by a handful of manufacturers in Taiwan, and are badged and resold by the major PC manufacturers.
