Windows Critical Updates?

Just how critical are these updates that pop up on my screen once a month? Should I just shine them on?

I've never used the auto feature (where it goes out and checks for updates), but the critical ones are usually a good bet. 90% of them are bug fixes, moslty for internet explorer. You should be able to check "yes" or something to see what the update is, read it, and then decide if you need it.

I always read what they are for and then decide if it pertains to what I do and download according.
