Daughter

Hi Everyone,

I've been in my house now for 3 years and just got a price from Pella to replace all the windows and patio door, lets just say OUCH!!

So I'm wondering what kind of window manufacture to go with? I'm wanting to put on vinyl siding in the next year or so, so I'd prefer windows with vinyl exterior.

Thanks, Michael

Can't recommend a good one but I can tell you to stay away from Anderson. They tried to screw my parents over when they built their house. They sent them a bunch of damaged windows and tried to blame it on the builders they were using.

My office solely specs "Weathershield. " Great windo at a decent price. GC's will then take our schedule to the local home center and get ones' made up from thier local or current supplier to lower thier costs.

Here's the link: weathershield

For a vinyl window I say Milguard. They have the same glass size on the fixed sash as the operable sash. You have to pay extra for that on most windows. Their service dept always takes care of anything and they have been around awhile. They even sell through home depot now. I used them for years.

I know you asked for brand names, but here is some more stuff you should know.

Get a window with a ''tape measure'' balance. These are the only one I will use because everything else I have tried breaks. they require no lubrication and w ill not drip out oily crap on your window stool.

You may also wish to get a window with a built -in siding channel and this enables you to insert the vinyl siding directly into the window receiver. This is a good option for newer houses that do not have wide thick window trim. However ,the siding and windows should be installed at the same time.

The companies that have these features [that I have dealt with] are Polaris and Simonton--Simonton being the better value IMHO Be aware that there windows are available in different series with different features and price points. Some of this stuff can be as big a difference as a Dodge with or without the Cummins. As far as Pella, they are available at Lowe's and are a good window if you want a low maint. exterior and a wood interior

PM me if you need more info

Find a manuf. that has a service rep. in your area. I used to spec Lincoln windows till they down sized their service group and the only rep. for the western half of the US was in Cincinatti. We had big problems getting any help. We are using Sierra Pacific windows now and are really happy with them. I've also recommended Hurd windows. I have them on my house and would use them again. Their service (which I only needed right after the install) was very good. I prefer wood w/ painted aluminum clad ext. Vinyl anything just doesn't work here in the wind.

when i was working for my pop doing home exterior renovations, we used vinylbilt windows. they have a good build quality [we have had a few problems with them, but they have all been labor related - they did cost cutting a while back and now have minimum wage green workers, but it's only sometimes 1 in 100 ]

they have all the fancy selling features like the low e2 and argon gas super spacer as well as the easy clean glass and some other stuff. . if i had a home to change windows on, them is what i would use

i believe that vinylbilt was/is a USA company so there may be dealers around... and the window work is only as good as the installer.
