I live in a rural area where gravel and small rocks on the road are common. I am on my third windshield due to cracks from rocks being thrown up by passing trucks. Sometimes I just receive a chip/pockmark.

On the small chips I have been having the windshield repaired by a traveling glass repairman. He uses a kit with a suction cup and a tube of some kind of clear plastic filler to draw into the chip. The cost is $20. 00 per chip.

Is there a self-repair kit on the market for vehicle owners to repair their own windshields?

If so, are they of good quality and would you use them yourself?

TIA

I am in the same boat. Utah has rocks all over the roads. Ticks me off. I have used the kit from walmart with good results, just follow the directions and be sure and cover the paint near your worksite. The compound will really eat into the paint. Found out repairing filling a windshield crack on an old Buick.

Try either CR Laurence or Sommer & Maca, they are suppliers to the glazing industry. They have small professional kits that do not require the major equipment investment. I have seen them demonstrated at trade shows and the insurance industry is now accepting them as valid repairs.

I bought one at WalMart for $9. 95 and it worked like a charm. Follow the directions and don' use it in direct sun light. Says to use it in the shade and then move it to a sunlit area to cure. I can't tell where the chip was. My neighbor watched me and then went and bought one and did it in the direct light and I think it made it harden to quick. His clouded.
