came out to go to work today and found a long crack in the windshield , starting at the top right corner of the cab. no apparent damage like something had hit it. talked to two other dodge owners at work and they have had the same problem in various windows. what gives? is it still covered under warranty at 58,000 miles? THANKS!

Here in SC windshields are covered under comprehensive, no deductable and they come to your home to do the work in an hour. Check your insurance policy.

Cracked Windshield

My 1996 Dodge had the windshield changed twice due to rocks from trucks.

Both times, my insurance comprehensive paid for it. I had $0 deductible so it cost me nothing. It didn't take much to crack them when you're going 80 mph.

RBobellger is correct. Call your friendly insurance agent. :)

Follow that crack with with a ball point pen. You'll find the crater that caused it and it may be VERY small. Stress cracks on new vehicles are very rare these days. Its sitting in a bed of sealer. Usually stress cracks appear very quickly, days or a few weeks at most of new. It was covered 3/36 for a defect.

I had one crack due to a rock hitting the rubber seal along the edge of the window. left no marks or evidence of a rock, but I know it was a rock as I just happen to notice it exactly where it hit, when it hit. you would be surprised at how little of a chip is needed for it to crack. Your insurance should cover it so I wouldnt worry about it anyway... plus, its nice having a clean, clear, road chipless window to look through, things are much clearer. :D (if you cant tell, I just had mine replaced thursday on the 00. :-laf )

My 04 Quad cab had a rear passenger door window completly shatter setting in the driveway with nobody around. Cool day in November so it was not heat. Truck was less than a year old, dealer said glass was one thing warrenty will not cover. He had it fixed and I paid dealer cost for it.

Yes. Warrantied a few over the years and I remember one that I knew was warranty and the installer found the rock chip I missed, but as I stated they usually show up in a few days or a week. They can also usually be proven. When windshields removed with stress cracks a thin or bare area of sealant is usually on that spot and glass was touching metal or a minor high spot of metal. Good installers will point it out and smooth area when new glass being installed. Good installers will also point out the area of impact when a small fracture as occured with a stone chip. I found 99% of them with a ball point pen. Follow the crack, you'll feel/find the crater even one hardly visable to the eye. Stress cracks due to lack of sealant etc. are very rare. Very.
