I have a windshield glass problem on my 06 I can’t get an answer to. When it rains I get these frosty type water spots that appear for 1-2 seconds after the wiper blade passes on the window. If the blade moves slow they will go away till the next pass. If the rain is heavy and the blades move fast the always there. You don’t seed them on a no rain day. I have tried new blades, heavy duty glass cleaners powder and liquid. I have asked two glass companies and they don’t have an answer. The thought is there is a flaw in the glass. Anyone else with this problem?

Defrost

Try running your defroster pretty warm on med to high setting. Once the windshield warms up to the temp inside the cab you should see those spots stop. I know what you're talking about and I believe that would be the best solution.

Try buffing the windshield with a mild buffing compound, Sounds like hard water spots. Buffing will make the windshield look like new.

I had the same thing it's acid rain etching. Go down to a good glass placeand ask for some of their glass compound it will be a dry powder mix it with some water to mke a paste and very slowly polish the whole window. a small orbital polisher will make the job go faster. When your done clean the window and apply RainX, it will help protect the glass from etching. Glipton waxs and polishes of Ronkoma(Sp?) Ny has a product to remove water spots it works but I found it to be a pain to get the glass clean after.

It looks like some kind of etching going on but acid rain?? My old truck did not do this nor my car 10 Years old or any other older car. It looks like some etching going on though. One glass company said to polish it but the next said I may do more damage best not to. They said use fine seel wool. I did but I see no difference in the spot I tried. Guess I will see what Dodge has to say. Glass is next to diamond hard so to etch it would be hard to do. Got to be a bad batch of glass. I will look into some glass powder. I don’t give much hope if steel wool does not work. Truck made Jan 06. Others around that time could have the same problem.

Don,t use STEEL WOOL! The glass on your windshield is soft and will scratch all to hell. I know I did it once, cost me a windshield it was so bad you could not see out of it at night with on coming traffic

All it takes is parking near the right factory to have it done... etching isn't a physical scratching, it is a chemical reaction. Typically it happens after the rain is on the glass and then you get some strong sunlight... the sunlight magnifies the effect. {what happens is the droplet is evaporated by the sunlight, the weak solution of acid is then concentrated as the water gets removed... weak acid rain then becomes pretty concentrated}. We would get this with NEW cars sitting on our lot all the time... ended up buffing every windshield before they were delivered to the customer.

Glass is actually not very hard at all... and varies from batch to batch. And that doesn't necessarily mean the glass was bad. It is typically an environmental cause, not the result of bad glass... you probably just got into something, somewhere, that caused the issue.

Believe it or not, this was a very common issue with the clear coat in paint, and it was reformulated to withstand acid rain etching. I can't begin to count the number of Buicks/Pontiacs/GMCs that we buffed out prior to being delivered to the customer. Today, you rarely hear about it.

Finally found out the problem with my windshield. After two dodge dealers and two more glass companies I heard the same thing “gee never saw anything like it”. The last glass company had more knowledge. They said it was “heat stain”. It is caused by contamination on the mold when the two layers of glass are heated and formed in the mold . Friction from the wiper blade is enough to cause it to appear for a second. I’m out of warranty and out of luck. :{
