2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Windshield Replaced & Weird Sound

Well guys on the way to work the other day a rock came off a dump truck & got my windshield... So after dealing with the insurance company I got it replaced today and picked the truck up later on. Well now my turbo is louder then it has ever been. It almost sounds like someone drilled a hole in my firewall and installed a jet engine in there. My question is is there a filter or gasket that goes beneath the black plastic cover that overlaps the windshield? The glass company said they didn't take anything out but I never got as much nosie in the cab as I do now... Any Ideas???



I had my windshield replaced once before and everything was fine so they had to do something wrong or forget a part... I guess you can't coun't on anyone these days. .

Take a flashlight and check the seal between the glass and the cowl along the top of the instrument panel- sounds like there may be a gap where the urethane isn't contacting the glass. You may be able to see daylight along the glass- if so, they need to put some more urethane in there.

I had the same exact symptoms on my 2G. It is definetly an air leak at the base of the winshield. Now if you like the sound of the turbo and as long as there are not water leaks... well you decide



But I di not care for it and had the galss dude come out again. He schmeed a bunch of sealant all around the galss and that took care of it.

Same for me. Took it to the wrong guy and he didn't get enough urethane on the bottom right side. My turbo was real loud. I took it back and he gooped up the bottom of the window and still didn't get all sealed so I did it myself. Next as I was sitting for the night at a truckstop in Indiana I had rain coming in from the top. Took it to someone I trusted this time to fix it. You might want to test the rest of the window before you take it back to have it fixed. Run a hose all over it and make sure no water comes in.

Definitely have the Company "air check" the bottom. They should take the bottom cowl off, spray foaming glass cleaner around the outside, and use compressed air blown from the inside. If there is a void the foaming glass cleaner will bubble and in extreme cases will go flying. Water checking does no good because water cannot travel uphill in the case of a lower leak. (unless you submerse the truck



Windshield should be pulled and reset, or a new one put in if extreme, period. If they want to "glob" urethane on the bottom, call your insurance company.



Your windshield today is not just a bug catcher. The glass in your truck is 60% of the strenght of your roof in the case of a roll-over. Plus keeps you inside the cab while it's rolling.



Many hack glass companies out there today. Make sure they are using the right primers after cutting out to promote adhesion( and rust) and use gloves to avoid contamination. It's my guess that you have a large void and just guessing that one guy set the windshield by himself which pushes glue creating voids. ( I've been installing auto glass for 20 years now and have seen it all. ) W/S are a safty factor now and if the Co give you any ***** go to your Insureance company and you'll be supprised at how cooperative the Co will be after that threat.



You or your Ins Co paid very good $$$ for that job, make sure it's safe and done right. If your ever in Omaha, have ME do the job!
