I just drove 160 miles in a driving rainstorm and my winshield is impossible to keep clear. I have tried windex and glass plus, what will take ALL of the nasty road film off my windshield and make it super clean? Suggestions??

I used glass polish found at Napa Auto Parts, sorry don't remember the product name, and then followed it with Rain-X.

It takes a little elbow grease but after the treatment windshield wipers are optional. ;)

I use a product called "Bar Keepers Friend", found it in the grocery store for about a buck or so. Its a cleanser & polish. Comes in a container like scouring powder (Ajax, etc. ) gold color container, blue feild with white letters. I saw Sam use it on the old "Shade Tree Mechanic" show. It really works - you throughly wet your windshield, take an old wax applicator (sponge covered w/terrycloth) wet it, shake on enough of the product to make a pastey mix then in a circular motion apply to 1/4 of the windshield at a time (overlapping the sections) then rinse very throughly. If you wish to apply a glass wax or other product, dry windshield and allow to air dry all the way, then go for it.

It really works off the grime and dosen't scratch the glass at all. Be carefull around the black trim though.

Many years ago when a gas station pumped the pas for you I pulled in to fill up in a nasty storm and the attendant cleaned my really ugly winshield with a bag of Bull Durham tobacco. No I am not joking. I can't explain how it works but it took off the road film. Bizzare.

Let's make it crystal clear...

I use Rainx and find it a great product.

My Dad and others that have tried it, find that the 1/2-1 sec of slight"haze" that occurs right after a the wiper goes by is annoying. I know it's there but I don't refocus on the windshield, so it doesn't bother me.

If you're one that needs a crystal clear view at all times, Rainx may not be for you. If you try it, it can be removed with a little elbow grease and some Bon-Ami.

Just a thought.

Fine steel wool works to get crud off too. We used to use that at the Caddy dealership until GM thought that leaving an exposed layer of plastic on the inside of the glass was a good idea in about '86 or so...

This may sound a little weird, but use toothpaste. It has to be the paste, not gel but it will work great. Put it on and scrub in circles, rinses clean with cold water. After that use Rain-X, I also prefer to take the time and put on two coats and then I make sure that I have Rain-X washer treatment in with my washer fluid to help it last longer. Works like a champ, and the toothpaste trick is cheap. Learned it from a long time longhaul truckdriver, for some reason he didn't like Rain-X either, something about having to replace wipers too often and the bugs that do stick stay there until he could take the time to strip the Rain-X.

Just my $. 02 Hope it helps

Take care

Rain X

Found Rain X windshield washer fluid at Pep boys. Cost about $3 something a gallon. Just add it to the resevoir full strength. It does seem to make the glass cleaner and more bug resistant. Also does the Rain X thing and beads up when wet. I like it.

I have used Rain X for several years and love it. If it is fairly fresh, as soon as I hit 30MPH the water just runs off.

I dont have to use the wipers at all at 50 and above even in a hard rain.
