On a recent trip my windshield wipers went out. Luckily it was the last 45 minutes of the trip; however, it was raining hard and created a real safety issue. I had just stopped for a cup of coffee, and everything was working fine prior to that, although I did notice the wipers appeared to have a slight bind half way through the cycle. When I started the truck and turned on the wipers I got nothing. I checked the fuse and it was blown. I replaced the fuse, turned on the switch, and the wipers looked like they started to go, but never came out of the park position, and blew another fuse. They appeared to bind, and then blew the fuse. I replaced the multifunction switch about a year ago, and the wipers had worked just fine until this latest issue. I'm guessing the motor, but before slapping a part at the problem I want to diagnose the issue. Is there some sort of linkage between the wipers that could be binding up? What is the process for getting at the motor and any linkage that might be there? I suppose another angle might be wiring in the steering column harness. I want to start with the simplest possible solution and go from there. Any suggestions would be helpful. I have checked the search function on the forum and didn't find anything similar to this problem.
