Good afternoon all,

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup Quad cab with issues to my windshield pump circuit. I've already confirmed that the pump is good as I took it out and connected it directly to the battery. Would you please advised me where to begin my troubleshooting exercise? I've already cut the connectors and determined that no DC volts is on the conductor (wire).

Thanks in advance

In looking at a wiring diagram for 99 which I would think yours is the same, it shows that the washer pump does not have a relay, just a switch which is part of the multifunction switch (turn signal etc) the wire shows to be a 16 ga brown wire. I have read on here of guys disassembling the switch and repairing but it looked pretty hairy to me. One wire to the pump shows to go to ground. It might be easier to install an auxilillary switch and abandon that circuit? bg.

Your trend of thought is spot on with what I told my son that may have to happen. Thanks for the confirmation.

One last question, which prong is the positive?

l or __

I just changed my multi-function switch. It was about 50.00 from advance auto. took about 30 min. to change. IMHO just change out the switch, easier then rewiring around.

On the drivers side under the hood right at the firewall is a grounding strap that is connected to the firewall just at the cowling wall. This is one of the grounds that is part of the wiper motor circuit. Clean the ground there first. I found this on my 2002 when I connected my exhaust brake ground to the same connector. One day it rained really hard and both my exhaust brake and wipers were not working. Cleaned the ground and viola, everything started working again.

I hope this helps. If you are still unsure where to look let me know and I will post a pic. You can also look through some of my past posts I think I talked about a similar situation regarding the exhaust brake.
