2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Windshield Wipers went out on the way to work. . .

Well, I noticed that my wipers quit working as I was driving to work. I had them on delay. I tried turning them up some, and normally the wiper will automatically "work" for one cycle when you lessen the amount of delay - no go. Turned them to low, no go. Turned them to high and they started working . turn them back down to delay and they work for a few minutes, then stop. Turn off and back to delay, no go. Turn to low, no go. Turn to high, started working. Quit after a few more minutes, then I had to use my turn signal, started working . I feel like my buddy's dad that was watching TV and my buddy used a Universal remote from outside the kitchen window to start messing with the TV.



What in the world could be going on here??? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm not much on electronics.

Could be intermittant short in the fuse. Replace it.

Update:

Wipers finally quit working altogether on delay and low speeds, still worked fine on high. Got around to checking it out, and the only part that was common to delay and low seemed to be the actual connection at the pump, so I decided to check voltage at the pump connector 1st. Checked the high speed connection, yep, 12V. Checked on low speed at the low speed connection, yep 12V. Checked the delay function, yep, n . . o . . p . . e, yep, n. . o . . p . . e (just kidding) it showed to be getting the proper power/signal also.



So I had the dealer (not seemingly a stealer in this case) order me a new motor. It is 1 assembly - motor, circuitry, linkage, etc. - everything but the wiper arms and blades. It's a dealer only item, and it was only $104. Maybe I'm wrong, but I didn't feel that was too bad a price for it.

strange "clicking" sounds

My wipers work fine, but for about the past year I notice when I rotate the wiper knob in the delay mode you can hear an audible clicking from under the dash. The clicking sounds correspond to the click feeling you can feel when rotating the wiper knob in the delay position. Do you think this can be the wiper delay gizzmo thingy going south?? I have not looked into it since my wipers still work, just have to put up with the annoying audible clicking sounds when rotating the delay knob to either faster or slower intermit delay. What's your thoughts??

Hey Clint, G. M. 's are famous for the circuit board going out. There is a board inside the cover of the wiper motor. Not sure if ours are anything like G. M. , I will have to look at my wife's suburban.



I had the nylon/plastic bushings go out in my 92 one morning on the way home form graveyards. I tied a piece of string to each wiper arm, one out the passenger side vent window, the other out the drivers. I would pull one then the other, slowly ripping the flesh in my hands . This lasted about 5 miles then one of the strings broke, so I just used whatever lane I felt like... . .

I really think mine quit working as a result of using the TriplEdge wiper blades. On the low speeds (including delay), they really grab on the windshield and jump alot. I think this probably caused over-amping in the low speed circuit, not the motor - the motor kept working on high. I sent them an e-mail, and all they replied with was how to clean my windshield.

Comments anyone?? Is there a separate control module/box for the wiper delay function located under the dash somewhere??

Check the plug to your function switch on the steering column. I will bet you have a wire sheared off at the flat connector on the left side of the column.
