Just got a rostra windshield washer fluid heater from Geno's. Before I go digging around under the hood, has anyone out there installed one on a 3rd gen (2003)? Looking for tips as to where to mount and or tap for power.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

I have one on my 2002, it goes on with the ignition. I have it mounted on my Firewall drivers side. Easier to get to and maintain. Hope this helps, Rick

How hot does the fluid get when squirting ? I have thought about doing this but have a concern for cracking my windshield when the outside temp is 30 to 40 below. We get brutal cold here in the mountains.

Don't worry, I have used it to melt the snow. It comes out hot but not boiling, it holds a small amount (8oz?) of fluid which is kept heated and as it empties it refills and heats up. I have had mine on for two winters already.

I mounted mine to the side of the afe shield. works great. So well I put one in every car I have. The heated blades are worth it also.

I have an 05 and i took my air filter box out and mounted it on the inner fender. It's close to the lines and i just wired mine all the way to the fuse box. I got a hook up for the cigarette lighter than had a wire coming out of it so it worked out great. Multiple spots for grounding though. Thats your choice. However i bought a different bolt and a nut and lock washer cause i don't trust that one they supply that self threads especially when its on the plastic inner fender so keep that in mind.

Was there a switch to activate or do you use the mirror defroster switch? How much did it cost? This sounds like something I can use. You see I live in Eagle River Alaska! :-laf Oo.

I have purchased a heated seat insert from Genos but have not figured where to to mount the switch. I talked to the dealer and they said not to use the defrost switch it might cause a spike back to the brain? Does that make sense to you?

If you install a relay to provide power to the washer heater activated from the circuit to the mirror heaters (not the switch), there shouln't be a problem at all. I wouldn't connect it directly to the mirror heater switch even with the relay. I don't have wiring diagrams but I would assume that power to the mirror heaters run through a relay possibly controlled by a computer.

I was thinking about this a couple of weeks ago but wasn't sure about the stress to the windshield.

mounted today

Found a spot on the side of the passenger battery box. towards the firewall. fits GREAT. Right next to a ground screw coming from the battery and even better is that there is a splice right there in the fluid hose.

Pulled the battery and mounted it on the outside of the box using small carriage bolts and cap nuts. Clean install in under 30 min. Now just looking for my power hoodup. like the idea of a relay control by the heated mirrors.
