I'm not sure who made you sign the waiver, and I'm not sure what you mean by special equipment. I can tell you I have a 2wd dually and use chains when necessary, and when I do I only chain up the outsides. My truck came equipped with 235/85 16 tires and the wheel offset with my 01 enables me to mount the chains pretty easily. I have blocks I use under the inside-rear wheels to prop up the outsides for easy mounting. You'll see caution expressed here on the TDR with respect to chains destroying the fenders if a link should break, so make sure your chains are tight and in good condition. As for which chains I use, I found the best to be the Pewag square-link alloy chains to be very good. They present minimal interference between the tire sidewalls, wear well, and provide great traction. The downside is that unless you have a Pewag dealer near you, you'll have to deal direct with Pewag in Chicago, and they're not the easiest to deal with. Your could also try the tirechains.com folks in Pa. too. I believe they also offer an alloy square-link chain.
