Gentlemen:

Any suggestions on where I can get info on the available? winter fronts for my '03 Ram? There is a bit of nip in the air and I want to be ready for the onset of cold weather.

Tx,

Mike

Thanks for the link, but it's no longer valid

I did find some info on a Google search that sells 'em in Alaska. I emailed them and they have a winter front available for the '03 Rams.

www.alaskatent.com

The front snaps on to the radiator core support and hangs down and is held in place on the bottom with bungee cords (included). The front has a zipper sewn in to open/close as required for airflow.

The cost quoted was $39. 95 plus about $3. 00 for the snaps + shipping from Alaska.

Visit their website, it looks like they know what they are doing when it comes to winter fronts.

Hope this info helps everyone.

I will report back when I get mine.

So by the souns of it it goes BEHIND the grill and not attached to the grill???? SOunds like a MUCH cleaner looking install

I had the snap on front on the 91 and for the 95 I made one that slipped in between the radiator and inter-cooler. Worked great.

At that time there was a lot of discussion about the size of the hole one needed to cut in the center to keep the fan blades from bending in for the lack ability to draw air. I believe it was a 16 inch opening.

Any thoughts about the size hole one would need for the 03. There is a nice space between the radiator and Air Conditioner Condenser.

I have the bottom out of an old lawn sweeper, firm plastic that should work very well. :)

The most important thing is that the air goes in the center of the fan and not one edge. I was at a seminar put on by either bendix or horton and the rep said having air coming freely from one side causes fractures in fans from not having a constant pull on them and it causes side loading on the bearings of the fan clutch.

The fact about the opening being centered was also mentioned when doing fronts for the 2nd generation rigs.

I'm going to start with a 16 inch opening and go from there. That worked real good on the 95.

Winter Fronts for 03

Nyone tried the "Deflecta Shield" ones marketed through Cabelas? They look good on paper and a local shop said they had done several with no complaints. Note Cabelas has them for the 03 but according to a local shop they are not available for the 03 to them yet. Larry

I have the Lund screen fronts on my '03, there is a picture of it in my gallery. I would assume the Lund cold fronts mount the same way, there are three bolts per piece that go through the grill, there is a threaded piece that goes on the inside, it just pinches the honeycomb grill.

are we talking about putting something directly infront of the radiator with a 16 inch hole in the center?

Yes that is what I did for my 95 and it worked great, plan to try it on my 03. Right in front of the radiator.
