Chevy died again

Holy Snow Batman!

Last check on fuel milage, I was down to 12. 6 mpg. I live in the country and the only thing I can think of is #1 diesel. I looked for leaks and there are none. Haven't installed performance injectors yet, just the gov. springs and #10 plate. I got this good of milage with my Dodge gasser. Bummer!

:(

Some other things to consider with poor winter mileage are longer/more often idle times, cold weather prolonging the time till your engine is at operating temperature and slick roads slowing you down.

The more #1 in the mix. The crappier the mileage and power. I don't touch #1. Unless there are days when it don't get up to -10 below zero.

Even with a 60/40 mix of #1 and #2 (quite a strong blend BTW) you are only losing 2-2. 5 MPG. If your mileage is substantially down and you cannot explain it with idle time, 4wd time, hotrodding etc then you probably have something that needs attention. With your plate and springs you can move a LOT of fuel, I am sure you know that from the performance you get. Hotrodding can really hurt the mileage quickly.

Air filter, fuel filter, valve adjustments, timing, you know there are a ton of things that should be looked at.

12. 6 for a Dodge gasser in the winter is outstanding mileage.

Thanks for the replies

After if quits snowing, I'll be looking into this milage problem. It's Wed morning and I have 4 1/2 feet in on my roof, trees are broken and roads are shut down. Biggest two days snow storm I can remember. Some areas in the Mountains are going on 7 feet.

Mileage

After 8 years with my CTD, I have noticed that I always seem to lose 2 or 3 MPG in the winter time. Part of the reason is winter fuel (I have seen the same tractor dyno 125 HP on straight #2, and drop to 120 HP after 5 gallons of #1 have been added to the fuel tank - same day, 15 minutes apart).

Another reason might be warm-up. I know I let my engine idle a lot longer before getting going in the winter. Even though it is just idling, spinning the engine with syrup for oil has got to take at least some power.
