Let me tell you what sucks. I pulled up at work and the computer monitor read
-4 F at about 7:30 AM. Truck sat there for about 11 hours. I turned the key on and while waiting to start computer temp said 0 F.
It turned over much slower than normal (which is what I expected), but then it seemed to only run on about 5 cylinders. I guess its more difficult to get the warmed heater grid air in one or two cylinders, plus the 1st and last two cylinders are on the outside most. So they're probably harder to warm up.
It smoked heavily, and I drove it slowly around the parking lot before I turned it over to the, "War Department. " I wanted to drive it home just to pay attention to what it was doing, but, the, "War Department," said she wanted to drive it, so to avoid conflict I followed behind in a company car. I could tell it cleared up after less than a mile, though.
I hope it not firing on a cylinder for a while won't have any adverse effects. My guess is that it won't because it was still getting oil/lubrication. I checked it at a stop on the way home and it was running fine.
If I could, I'd bring a long extension cord and plug the sucker up, but that just ain't going to fly at work. Does anybody have any suggestions for cranking it up at such a cold temperature without the use of the block heater?
