Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Winterizing my CTD

I'm moving up to the little town of Augusta. It's about an hour west of Great Falls. Not much there except cattle.



do ya'll remove the windshield washer fluid before or it gets cold or do you just let it freeze?

Run straight washer fluid, it won't freeze till like -40°. You'll probably go though much more washer fluid than you did in Texas. When the conditions are just right I go though a gallon of ww fluid every tank of fuel. When the road thaws from rising temps or ice melter after a snow the traction sand (now mud) flying off the road from anyone you get behind or who passes going the other way will instantly dirty your windshield. You'll learn real fast to keep your distance from the car in front of you. If you like keeping your rig clean you'll probably have to hit a carwash once a week or more in the winter. Vehicles in Montana tend to start looking pretty ugly in the winter.

Change your windshield washer fluid to a winter blend. We recently had a cold spell here in Denver and I had not changed from the Prestone summer stuff to their winter blend. The stuff in the wifes car froze (temps in the teens). Yesterday I used my mighty-vac hand pump to remove the stuff from my truck I noticed it was starting to form ice crystals (temp was about 28). Reason I think the stuff in the truck had not froze solid is becasue the reservior is in the engine compartment.
