I put on Tridon Areofoil wiper blades. No ice here but lots of rain. The Areofoil has six connectors that hold blade and put pressure on it. But they are made of plastic don't know if strong enough for snow or ice work great with rain at any speed. Recently I have noticed there are only metal ones around.
I think if you can keep window warm and wiper blade against it this will take care of problem. Shouldn't matter if compressor is on or not. Every vehicle I have owned the compressor is on when defrost cycle is used(except those that didn't have a/c).
The compressor isn't blowing cold air because compressor is on it is because your coolant isn't warm enough. If your coolant temp is close to 180 than your temp door in a/c-heater box isn't working correctly.
I have lived in some what cold country where we would have a few ice storms I never had blades freeze up as long as you had warm/hot air hitting windshield.
