wiper delay has gotten very erratic, am trying to find out where the timing circuit is, in the steering column, or the the wiper motor itself, cannot find in the service manual... #@$%!

Yep, in steering col. It is at the inner end of the turn signal stalk. Is accesable but need to take necessary precautions associated with accidental air bag deploymewnt before tearing into it. bg

Not saying that you shouldn't take precautions, but there IS a very simple way to pull the multifunction switch on the 3rd gen trucks. This is thanks to Bighammer in this thread--

https://www.turbodieselregister.com...-bombed-multifunction-high-beam-switch-2.html

Also, I just posted the same procedure in another thread--

https://www.turbodieselregister.com...nker-hazard-switch-replace-tricks-how-do.html

(1) remove the 2 screws which hold the plastic "clamshell" together behind the steering wheel (torx bit)

(2) Remove the steering wheel up/down lever (pull back towards the driver seat)

(3) Pull the top half of the clamshell up and the bottom half down, spreading it out around the ignition switch

(4) Disconnect the wiring harness from the switch by pulling back the red locking tab and then sliding the plug towards the front of the truck

(5) Remove the 2 phillips screws which hold the multifunction switch to the steering column (they are on the left side top and bottom, just next to where the switch stalk joins the switch body... NOTE--a right angle phillips screwdriver is REALLY helpful here). Then, depress the little grey tab in the center of the switch body while pulling along the stalk, strait towards the drivers door... it WILL slide right out.

Installation of the new switch would simply involve doing the above steps in the reverse order.

There are Pics in both of the threads. Good Luck. . let us know how it goes!!

I have had a problem with my int wipers. Dealer replaced the multifunction switch, still no change. I ended up buying a new wiper transmission and that fixed the problem. With the new wiper trans, I noticed that the wipers parked a little lower than before.

You haven't listed your truck specs?

my dad and i have this same issue with our 04. 5 2500 and 3500 trucks. thank you for the great tip. i will give this a shot.

My wipers are spastic too. They even wipe sometimes when I lock or unlock the pickup with the remote. It has not bothered me enough to fit it... yet.
