Wipers completely dead on 2006

The truck sat for a couple years (long story). It's running again and I need to get it inspected, but the windshield wipers don't budge. There is no fuse apparently. I've heard it can be as simple as a rusty connection between wiper motor and frame, which makes sense. I've heard dead wipers are a common problem on these trucks. Any opinions? How do I get to the wiper motor?

You can use the parts gun - or let it diagnose at the dealer (or yourself if you have the ability) and change what's broken.

Wiper motor is located under the black plastic cowling cover. I forget if there are screws or those push plastic pin things that hold it down. I do remember removing the wiper arms and having to be careful not to break the hold down hooks. If you go to RAM they will sell you the complete wiper assembly I had just replaced the motor. With an aftermarket one from Carquest back when they existed. It wasn’t a bad job. Just know the plastic grill cover is very expensive from RAM. So remove it with care.

I replaced the assembly, because all the links were shot to. Bought it aftermarket from Rockauto.

Almost all the problems end up being the wiper motor assembly itself. The multi-function switch is sometimes and issue but on a 2006 it could be the TIPM because that is where it is activated from. Easy cheap stuff first, wiper motor assembly and the multi-function switch if you want to change parts, or start tracing power to see if it is getting there.

Recently replaced my wiper motor. The Park setting was bad. It would not return to the Parked position. Initially replaced the multi function switch.

Rockauto was out the higher end rebuilt wiper motors. They had cheap and brand new (expensive). Bought a rebuild with Core charge from Napa. Napa was also low Nationwide on rebuilds. It was about $50 plus core or $200 for new replacement.

When taking the wiper arms off do not lose the small metal shims that clock the wiper arms.

I got lucky (for a change)! I had the key in the ON position and the wiper switch ON as I put the wrench to the linkage to remove the motor. Voila! It started working!

What a b----h getting that cowling off though! Hood up? Hood down? Half way? Ugh!

Yep, bad motor. Eventually it will stop again. The whole setup including arms is like $240 from Mopar Parts online.

Was going to say the same thing...will defintely happen again...something to do with the brushes and where the motor stops.

Probably should of just kept going if you already had the cowling off and the motor in hand !!!

Watched a mechanic loosen the nut holding the motor and than tighten it back up, wipers started working.

If you are keeping the truck put in the motor, if not just clean up the ground contact or run a new ground wire to it.

I’m more interested as to why you left it sitting for 2 years???
