Dodge seems to enjoy changing the wire colors and locations over the years... I recently bought a Viper 791XV alarm (mainly for the integrated turbo timer and keyless entry, dont know why anyone would buy a 35K truck without all the tricks but who knows)... anyways, the Viper requires the tachometer wire to be tapped into. From reading several other posts, this is a common problem to find the tach wire. I have read its Black/White stripe located at the PCM on passenger firewall, other say its Dark Blue/Orange stripe located at coil, etc etc... For a 1998 2500 T. D. SLT Quad Cab, where is this wire and what color? The Viper requires it to be on a full scale voltage of 0-12V, however, has an option for reading smaller voltages (instructions suggest Neons and other smaller Dodges have this reduced tach scale). I have read rumors here and there that the 2500 tach voltage is between 0-5V, can anyone confirm this? My second question is that the viper can control the door locks and requires to be tapped into the lock wire and unlock wire... I seem to have found the correct wires in the driver's kickpanel region however when the alarm sends the trigger to those wires nothing happens with the door locks... any suggestions? Im sure I have offended many out there that make a living by installing these systems, however, thats not my intention... whats the fun in it if you cant explore your own truck and take a weekend to customize it?
any help would be greatly appreciated!!!... oh and one more wire i about gave up on was the wait to start light wire... i dont plan on ever using the remote start feature unless its for showing off to buddies (rather be there in person to watch the rig start up in case something goes boom)... anybody know where and what color this wire is?
thanks
