Greetings,

I have been having some trouble trying to figure out how to wire my hella 550's to only come on when I have the high beams on. I can switch them on with just the rocker switches, but since the 99 and 00 rams are ground to switch, not to battery I am getting a constant 12v to the rocker. I tried using the ground off the other wire to the relay, but that doesn't work either. I tried to look at some past forum articles, but nothing there I could understand. Anyone out there able to help me figure this wiring thing out? Thanks, Jän

Jän,

I installed a pair of PIAA 60XT driving lamps inboard of my foglamps in the bumper of my model year 2000 NON-SPORT Ram 2500. The lamps are only powered when the high beams are selected and the key is in the run position.
You will need to use a relay. To allow the auxilary lamps to come on with high beams only, one side of the trigger coil on the relay is wired to the positive side of the battery and the other side of the trigger coil is spliced into the red w/orange tracer wire found at the plug at either headlamp-I went for the passenger side.
The red w/orange tracer wire eventually finds its way back through the headlamp switch to ground.
The minimal current used by the trigger coil doesn't seem to cause any problems with the headlamp switch.
