I'm installing the BD 4" inline exhaust brake and I've got the hard part (or at least I thought) installed - the actual unit that bolts after the downpipe. Now I'm having trouble with the rest of the system. Specifically, how/where do you bolt the throttle switch? The picture in the instructions is horrible.

I blew off their instructions and put a switch on my shifter knob. I can put it on or off when I want to.

It is a pain in the a$$ no matter what brand of brake you have. I had to make a custom one for mine (us gear) so all I can suggest is slide the drivers seat back, take the switch and mounting bracket and wiggle up under your dash and start holding in different places around the throttle until you find a place that might work. There should be four mounting bolts/nuts on the throttle assembly. Your switch bracket should mount to those.

The picture is from US Gear for their universal mount. We have two bolts on either side of the assembly.

Hope this helps.

here's what the installation manual says:

Dodge 1994 to present: Place the Throttle Switch on the bracket by using the two bolts of the engine front cover by the injection pump throttle linkage.

Then it shows two figures, one that is apparently the front cover (whatever that is) and the other that looks like what Sticks was saying, by the pedal.

I didn't mess with the throttle switch. Mine is justcontrolled by a somple on/off switch on the shift knob. EZ wiring method:cool:

Put the micro switch inside the truck, like the gent with the US gear illustration shows. The bd bracket and micro switch are a bit different. The Micro switch on your bracket will mount to the top left corner with the switch facing the drivers seat rather than the dashboard.

The two nuts that hold the bracket will require your 15mm socket, several extentions and the "universal joint".

Loosely assy and snug one nut back down, hold the micro switch up onto the bracket and mark for pilot drilling the holes. Take the bracket off, put it in your vise and drill the holes for the self-drilling/tapping sheet metal screws. I usually install the screws, but don't completely tighten them at this point. Assy bracket on the studs and tighten the nuts up.

Minor tweaking with a small cresent wrench on the side of the bracket will assure proper contact with the accel when decel/accel positions are achieved.

Or you can do the Hammer method, its on or off. Personally, I like the micro switch feature so you don't have to turn the brake off when you are rady to accel again. But each his own.

Good luck,

Andy

Yes but as Ross Perot said in the 1992 pres. campaign. . "potato chips are a thing of the past... "

They have been moved "in doors" to protect the longevity and reliability of the micro switch's operation.

Thus, not too many installers use the throttle lever/tps mounting location.

Good luck.
