I'm getting my truck wired to accept a slide-in camper next week. Seems like I remember reading some advice awhile ago regarding adding this type of wiring to these Dodge trucks? Possibly creating problems with the tail lights or something? Any advice would be appreciated...

Northrunner,

I think it depends how you tap the system and if your truck has the factory relays for the trailer wiring. I wired my camper with an 8' cord that plugs into the stock 7 pin and just run the cord along side the camper. I also sometimes tow a trailer with the camper on so I made a second cord like the first but with a 7 pin female plug on the hitch for the trailer. I also put a heavy duty toggle switch on the power/charge wire in my harnesses to seperate the truck and rv's when camping. Works great:)

More Questions

Dune Racer, thanks for the suggestions. In your picture, is that one of Torklifts extentions? I've got their Superhitch and just today ordered their camper tiedowns. How do you like those two products?

Thanks,

Slide-On Wiring

NorthRunner,

When wiring in the truck camper harness, you should isolate the truck batteries from the camper batteries when the ignition is off. I recommend a solenoid for this, mounted in the engine compartment. Don't let your RV dealer tie the slide-on "running lamps" into the Dodge running lamps line. You'll just blow out the dash fuse, 20 amp. There is dodge 40 amp relay in the PDC for this. If your not prewired with the camper package, you can pick up the line just behind the DS front wheel well. That relay is energized thru the Dodge when the parking lamp / Head light switch. Hope this helps.
