Wondering if anyone would happen to know if the harnesses that go into the doors would have the connections for electric mirrors if it was shipped with the factory tip out style mirrors? It is a top package they offered at the time, (leather, heated seats etc.), always thought it was kinda handy they didn’t have electric tip out mirrors in 2001 like the new pickups. Just figured I would see if anyone knew before I went into popping the door panel off and it be for nothing if someone knew and could share their knowledge on it. Appreciate the help in advance!

Dont quote me on this but I remember having this discussion with members years ago and them finding out that the wiring for the electric mirrors are already in the harness. It would make sense too since how unnecessarily expensive it would be to have a specific wiring harness for every different component difference on the assembly line. You may have to pop a panel and check...

Katoom I was thinking the same thing myself to be honest, and hoping all that it would need are the switch for the adjustment and if a guy wanted heat a HVAC panel with the button for it. Think I will end up having to take the panel off, just hate how that plastic sounds whenever you are lucky enough to have to do it . Thanks for the response for sure! Once I find out for sure I will be sure to post my findings either way!

I'd make sure you do plenty of research to fully understand how that panel comes off so that you dont unintentionally break something...

I have read on here that the harness was there when they check it out. Just had to find it. So now you have the manual tip out mirrors? and your going to go to the electric powered ones?

Correct, they only offered those mirrors with no power options when they were first introduced as a factory option, and as they have aged, they are not too easy to move the mirror section when you tip them up causing the mirror to break. Plus heat would be handy too.

good luck on your project, do some shopping for the mirrors of your choice. I'm going to install some 4th gen headed mirrors on mine when it gets little warmer, with heat and the turn signals, and then add the running lite to.

Should turn out nice for sure man and thanks I’ll need a little luck haha!

As a follow up to my previous post, finally had a decent day to do the install. Went very good I thought. Main problem is when you are using a different mirrors than is intended for your truck its not a plug and play system, you have to figure out the wires for proper configuration which is just time consuming. For the plugs I got them before hand from the recycle yard, (wrecking yard) and also seen a add for the DUEL LIGHT MODUAL, by Boostautoparts.com. I conversed with them a few times to see if there unit would work with my install, there view, was not encouraging, said it was designed for the 4th gen trucks and didn't think it would work with my truck. But I had already run marker and turn signal to my mirrors so the wires were already in place, and the rest was cake to install. The modual referred to makes it so you can have the markers on with the lights and also incorporate the turn signals also as the new trucks only have one or the other. ( I could be wrong, not the first time)
This statement about boost auto parts, I am not affiliated with them, and I am not pushing there product I'm just a satisfied customer and have used there product. If your interested check out there web site.
Sorry there is no pics go show the fun I had.

My 95 has the power mirrors OEM, the connector is a flat three wire setup, I had run the other two wires, the turn and the markers to a small clearance lite to the outside of the OEM mirror to be seen when changing lanes etc. The mirrors that I wanted was the 4th gen heads with the bigger mirrors and the other spot mirror, of which was in the 98 and on selection which has the five wire configuration. Three to run the mirror and two for the heat, of which was mostly standard 98 on to the 02's. Which was a stock item at the time. So as mentioned, I sourced from the wrecking yard the plugs needed to do the wiring with out doing a lot of splicing, making a plug and play set up. I found a 94-97 male plug and both male and female plugs 98-02 for the new mirrors which has the five wire female plug attached, along with the wires to run the turn/ running lights. I haven't connected the heat yet. This is how I had to do mine.
Now the question is do you have power mirrors now or are they the manual? you may have the wire harness in the door if its a late enough model. The only way your going to find out is undo the top screw and have a look down inside. The control knob is going to be your biggest problem if you don't have that, that's going to be a problem. you would need the whole harness and be a master mind to figure that one out.
Your question-- yes mine was of course, No totally different configuration as mentioned above.
Good luck.
What is your truck?

I am wanting to install electric slide out tow mirrors to my 2001 Dodge 2500. It has manual fold out now. I understand someone makes a replacement kit.
