Wirring noise, mostly noticeable in cab

Hi all,
Noticed a wirring, coffee grinder, like noise that has gotten louder. Hear it mostly from inside the cab. I think the noise has always been there, it just recently has gotten louder. The only thing I can think of is either the aux fuel pump located on the frame, or the electric vacuum pump. I don't know where and what this electric vacuum pump looks like to try and check it out. It seems of a electric nature as it continues after shutting the engine off, and also mostly makes noise when the key is in the run position.

It sounds like it may be your blower motor.

Can you verify if it is the lift pump that is running? Have someone lay under the truck with their hand on the pump while you operate the key? Maybe your turbo winding down...or a grid heater solenoid trying to break it's contacts or it's relay which is under the passenger side dash. Sounds like you could use a hand locating the source first off, then determine the fix.

The vacuum pump is on the passenger fender back of the battery. Should be able to hear it being noisy with the hood open.

I have noticed a louder similar noise that lasts longer lately also. It seems like the aux fuel pump is trying to pump up and is having a hard time getting up to pressure. Air bound? The truck is running fine. It seemed to be more noticeable after I changed the fuel filter. The noise seems to be coming from the fuel filter , the plug on its side, feels like its vibrating when my ignition is turned to the run position. If its the electric fuel pump (on the frame rail?) ,is the noise a symptom of impending failure? Is it easy to replace? Can get one from Napa? Are they expensive?

The aux fuel pump is mounted on the side of the fuel filter. and runs for about 30 secs with the key in the run position without starting the truck and then turns off, is that normal? Maybe I just overlooked the noise it makes, or it did get louder?

If it has gotten louder it is probably getting ready to die. They are a problematic pump to begin with and age doesn't make them any better.

got a new pump ordered, however do you think a programmer would cause the demise of the pump?

No. These pumps have been trouble from day 1. The factory changed to an in tank pump in 05. That's what most people go to when they replace the original. Dodge doesn't even list the filter mounted pump any more. No longer available from them.

I ordered a filter mounted one from Genos, the first one lasted( still working actually) 75000 miles and 11 years so I'm thinking it will be OK for a while. Batteries are original too, but that's another story.

75,000 seems about right. They went to an in tank pump because the fuel in the tank helps cool the pump. Also, pumps are a lot better at pushing fuel than drawing it from the tank all the way to the motor.

swapped out the fuel pump as a precaution, the new one is quieter , but not by much. Stored my old one as a spare and we are good to go!

Yes, the thirty second thing is normal unless you get the latest flash, then it runs continuously.

Update. Ordered a replacement pump only and today installed it. Now no more noise in the cab. You can hardly hear it running from in the cab with the engine off, and not at all when the engine is running.
