O2' 3500 4x4 welding rig w/ Juice & attitude, FASS II this is a work truck that is DRIVEN. I Just blew a head gasket and am replacing with a OEM Marine grade W/ ARP 12mm studs. I have been told that with my weight (10,600 lbs. ) being driven on a daily basis running Colorado & Wyoming hills that I am running in a negative delta, and that even though my boost is under 32psi. ,internally the pressure is much greater. They strongly suggest a stage II Garrett Powermax turbo and pretty much promise that this will eliminate my Negative delta. It should also improve mileage and make blown head gaskets do to negative D a thing of the past.

Any in sight would be greatly appreciated. Oo.

Please respond ASAP

AUto or manual? If it is an auto you are pushing that hy pretty hard. I had an HTT 62/12 on my 01 and towed 13K plus my vehicle weight. It did pretty good. Only complaint I had was uder 2000 rpm in 6th gear. The EGT would approach 1300. Once it hit 2000 rpm the temps dropped and I could hold it to the floor until I ran out of nerve.

He has a 6 speed, so it should be a HX35 and 32 lbs of boost should not be a problem. To much timing could be an issue according to some that post on here. HO's have more stock timing than SO's, right? Tune down the Edge/juice and install larger injectors????

The htb2 62/12 would be a good charger for your application. It spools fast & will cool you down even faster.

Things are different at those elevations & injectors would just make more heat.

Sounds like a nice truck. Gettubg close to maxing out that clutch. Also, HO trucks have higher egts normally than the SO trucks.

I don't have much experience with the Garret stuff. Real spendy turbos. I have had excellent luck with both the Industrial Injection PS6280 and the BD Super B single. Both are very similar and both use an 14cm HX40 style housing. Should spool well and allow you to relieve a bit of pressure off the motor. Even low boost performance is very good with either turbo.

As for the timing, I think he's fine. the Edge doesn't do that much timing. As for the injectors, I wouldn't go more than 275 rv injectors for reasons of smoke, mileage and heat.

Snorking has it right

I pushed a welding truck around the US for 15 years before settling in so cal

now I is a welding inspector ( talk about the dark side).

With that much weight a balanced approach is needed

80 hp injectors

mild to med timing and fuel

htt or II turbo call them and tell what you are doing

cam?

P-pump conversion?

Larger charge air cooler?

snow boost cooling?

If you are going to do studs you should do a cam it can be done in a day, if you have a press handy and can use it. I had professional help and we were in and out and running in 8 hours. The cam will allow you to breathe and stay cool. I can load up to your weight in firewood and run 2200 in od and stay below 1000 on a fairly steep grade.

A larger charge air cooler may be in your future.

It is a very good idea to decide exactly how much power that you want and approach it in a balanced way.

just my 2 cent

Due to altitude you are working with you need to keep the turbo matched to your setup... . The garret stage III setup is nice and would work well for you, fast spoolup and good cooling, although I don't like the exhaust size/outlet. Another good choice would be a Phat Shaft 62 with the 12 housing. Going to the SPS at your altitude is a bit much and you will have spoolup/egt issues.

The modified marine gasket is great, I would recommend going ahead and installing O-rings while the head is off. Its a small expense for a big piece of mind.

Thanks Guys !!

I went with the Garrett Stg. II i felt that the III was a bit much. I feel that I made a well informed decision. And if they are good enough for the big rigs and planes... . I sure do appreciate all the input from you guys
