Well I am off tomorrow to pick up my new to me 2nd gen, 97 dually, I bought sight unseen from another TDR member. My "other" cummins powered acquisition gave me fits, had to call a wrecker 5 times to get it home, only 200 miles away!

I am flying to Detroit MI to pick it up, then driving down to Marianna Florida to pick up a truck camper I bought there, then back home to the tip of Texas, Brownsville area, hope to be back home in a week or less. If anybody sees a sad looking old guy along side the road, at least honk as you go by! I need a Cummins confidence builder, in all my hundreds of thousands of miles, my Detroit nor my Catapillar never made me walk.

We drove to Alabama from Texas to get ours based on some pictures & a few phone calls. Traded my old car in & drove this one home about 90k ago.

I've never even considered getting a newer truck, we love this one.

Good Luck Don. I got my 97 3500 dually from Dallas Tx on Ebay and had it shipped sight unseen to me in California. It worked out fine for me and I'm sure it will for you too. Most people are honest, in my opinion, so put a grin on your face and have a good time. I love my Cummins... . er... uh... Dodge. Oh heck. . I bought it for the Cummins I'll admit that. :-laf

Have a safe and fun trip Don! I am sure you won't have any problems. Maybe bring the TDR Travel Companion with you, that way you won't have probems for sure! ;) I was a little uneasy at first driving my old 92 home from Grand Rapids, MI but the sweet old 12 valver was music to the ears :-laf Good Luck!!! Keep us posted! :)

may the great spirit watch over your refrigerator and keep it cold, world without end, adios :-laf i only went about 250 miles to get my beast and at the time i thought it was fine, but now i know it was in p!$$ poor shape but i still wound up with a ok deal

Well at the very least, that will make for an interesting jorney. Only problem is that it is kind of boring driving down in the SouthEast.

Good luck with the truck. Chances are it will be fine.

I have thought about selling our truck and getting a 97 12 valver.

Let us know how it pans out...

If you are getting it from a fellow TDR'er chanced are it'll be better than if you got it from a dealership. That said - good luck to you. Safe trip and all that. LEt us know when you get home and post a few pictures.

Well, I had a good and a bad remote shopping experience this summer.

I found a diesel Mercedes wagon in San Rafael, CA. I some money down to hold it until I got there. It was so rank with mildew from leaks in the sunroof and around the back door that I thought I'd probably die, or at least get black lung, driving it back to WY. So, I left a $1K lying on the table that he wouldn't refund. PS: His name is Rico Provasoli and he is an *****#@!=.

For my next adventure a couple weeks later I went to LA, CA to look at a couple Subaru Outback wagons. The heck with the diesel Mercedes, which probably could handle the snow anywho. Bought a decent wagon and its been my go to town driver since. So, my 97 CTD 3500 is now retired to truck duties such as firewood hauling, hunting, hauling the camper, serious winter driving conditions, bouts of testoterone (just aint the same in the roo), and etc. Guess which one gets the garage ;)

So, I hope it works out well for you, cuz I think most of the TDR folks also like to fish. :-laf

PS: Don't forget to ask if the KDP has been executed. Or, I'd suggest doing it done before you start your long journey.

Hi All... ... ...

I'm the owner (former) of the 97 Dodge Don came to Michigan to pickup. He had kinda of a bad trip flying to Detroit and I hope his drive back with my old reliable 97 will be better. I got a call from him about 20 minutes in his trip south. One of those things where you are afraid to answer, thinking he is sitting along the side of the road. His call was to say, "Man this thing sure gets down the road good!" I hope his next 150,000 are as good as my first 150,000. were.

By the way, Don and his wife are great people!

Good luck!

Home Again!!

Well back home, lots of miles in a few days. Found the truck to be better than I even expected, this has got to be the cleanest, best kept 97 there is! Could have chatted with R Nichols and his wife all day, some very fine people that really took care of a truck!

We left Detroit in a hurry, had to get to Pigeon Forge Tenn the next day, then down to Florida. Made a fun drive, boy that Mor Ryde rear suspension is worth the bucks! Average fuel mileage for the fast trip to Florida was 22. 9 for the trip, not bad for a one ton dually I thought. Made me proud I held out for the automatic overdrive with lockup TC, and a 3. 5 rear gears. I don't think I saw over 2000 rpms the entire trip. In Florida I picked up a 4000lb pickup camper, big sucker with a generator and all the goodies, 12 footer. Boy that sucked the diesel, mileage for the trip from Florida to souhern tip of Texas was down to 16. 7, barn doors don't push easy it seems.

Anyhow, the truck made the trip with perfection. No fluids used, no problems of any sort whatsoever, just lots of miles doing its thing. If you can't figure it out, I am ONE HAPPY CAMPER!! Love my truck!.

(Photos will follow)

Good luck Don.

I boguht mine sight unseen from a fellow TDR member as well. He even delivered it from Michigan to Maryland for me.

I sent him a $1000 deposit via Western Union, and he could of just taken the money and ran.
