I'm posting this in the hopes someone from Cummins will read it and get an idea.
Wouldn't it be great if you could take your truck into a Cummins service center and have the ECM reprogrammed from a "menu" of various non-warranty-voiding power/torque curves? I mean, say you wanted to drop to 250 Hp and increase to 650 ft-lb. Or decrease torque and horsepower to achieve better fuel economy. Or increase horsepower and decrease torque a bit.
There could be a menu of maybe 6 horsepower/torque curves that the friendly Cummins service people could program into the ECM for you for a small fee. The service wouldn't void warranties, and could be done as often as you're willing to pay for it. Example: this weekend you're driving the truck 500 miles unloaded to visit someone, so you have it reprogrammed to drop torque and horsepower and increase fuel economy. Then next month you're towing 12000 lb out to a construction site 100 miles away, so you have it reprogrammed to boost torque and horsepower a bit.
Ahhh, what a pipe dream!
