Witch will the sun fade faster? Line-X or Rhino liner?

If you were to suggest a spray in bed liner witch one would it be?

Rino fades faster if it's not taken care of. I'd reccomend Line-X Just had it done on the 05. very nice, no runs or drags. Just an even uniform consistant texture. The rino dealers try to sell you on the fact that the Line-X is too hard and the Rino will keep stuff from sliding around in the bed, my uncle has had Rino in his 2500 for just over a year and it's allready hard as a rock, and peeling off everywhere. Just my 2 cents. CW

I had Line-X in my '01 and after 3 years of strong desert sun up to 110 it didn't fade at all. Can't say the same for the Armor Thane I had in my '03, it was starting to chalk within a year.

I bekieve it depends on the color. My Black did not fade at all. The light grey I have now faded very quickly, but I was told that the light grey would fade. Linex has a kit to restore it, but to me it is no biggie.

I had a Rhino liner in my last truck that faded bad. I have a permatech liner in the bed of this truck (black) and also sprayed on the rockers (grey) and neither have faded at all.

mine has rhino lining for six years now. It was color matched to the agate interior and you can tell that it has faded slightly but I don't think it is bad. Other than the fading it has been superb, protects well and it is nice to not have stuff slide as easy. My brother has the Line-X and I do notice stuff slides around easier in his. Overall I think they are both really good. If it were me doing it again the only thing that would sway me from one to another would be price.

Thanks guys, I believe both products are great and would last for as long as I own my truck. When I was calling around yesterday my boss told me not to get the Rhino because of it fading from the sun. Any way I found a Line-x dealer just out side of St Louis that will do over the bed rails for $475 with tax. Cheapest Rhino bid was $505 for over the Rail.

Looks like Line-X will get my money on the fading issue

Mr. St. Laurent brought up a good idea about spraying the rockers. So I had to call around again to see what it would cost. 2 line-x dealers wanted $700 to spray the rockers. And 2 Rhino dealers wanted $300. 1 dealer for Rhino wanted $900 for both the bed and Rockers they told me they wouldn’t spray the rockers with out spraying the bed

For the guys that have sprayed the rockers is it worth the money to have it done?

I have the black over the rails Line X and it faded after about a year sitting in the sun.

I just spray some tire dressing on it and it shines up like new again. Lasts about 3 months before I have to re-apply.

I do prefer the hard Line X to the softer Rhino... just my preference.

Both my Rhino and my Line-X faded, both black. As noted above, you have the hard and soft to choose from, and price. I recommend you look at the workmanship and thickness on real trucks from the installers you are considering. The material is a major cost to them, so some installers ginch on thickness. Some are more careful, and sand/prep the bed better than others.

Chris,

Check with Tomeygun on who he uses for the new trucks. He might be able to cut you a deal there in St. Louis with the guy he uses. I can say that they did an awesome job on my Line-X, quality and workmanship wise.

I about choked when the Rhino guy told me 800 for the rockers. Why do the rockers cost so much compared to the bed?

Personally since I live in a cold climate I prefer the Rhino, it doesn't flake at -40f line Line-X but I doubt you have that problem. Our deal is that we don't see the sun much in the winter.

My Rhino Liner faded pretty bad, its black. I like Speedliner the best, it uses shedded kevlar in the mix and it stays really shiny. I have my wheel well openings done in speedliner.

Both the Rhino and Line-x liners are made of the same type of urethane just slightly different to make them their own. The type of urethane they are can not be made UV stable, so they are both prone to fading. The amount of exposure to the sun will determine how fast. No matter what liner you end up with, the main thing I would check is the workmanship of the person applying it. I had been in that business for some time and have seen good and bad from both of them. It usually isn't the product, but rather a poor prep job or application of the product.

After having worked for one of the above companies and a friend working for the other, I went with a Superliner for my truck. It is a different type of urethane that mixes with automotive tints to give it's color, including black. Because of this, it is UV stable and I was able to color match my truck including adding the metallics to the color. It doesn't go on as thick as the others, but it doesn't need to since it's tear strength and elasticity is greater than the others. The only draw back is if it were a real work truck where things were being thrown into the bed, it could dent the bed easier. If it did dent I would rather have the softer material so it would stretch with the bed, rather than seperating from it. Just my opinion... Andrew
