The new ULSD will finally have a lubricity standard, and will in fact in many cases be a better lubricating fuel than today's. I agree, bio is likely the best thing you can do for a VP44, just watch out for heavy viscosity. Watch the fuel pump lift PSI. If you have never run bio, watch for the filter to plug up from the junk that the high detergency cleans up.
 
I have run a couple of tanks of the ULSD and have not had any problems yet. I just had my LP and VP replaced this week, so I will try and run it more often.
