WMD & military govt?

Thanks, TDR Staff

Ahhhh Thanxgiving

Things you are thankful for.

It has already started

I don't think it will take a WMD attack to finish it. The Constitution has been eroding away for over a century. We have a Judicial branch that makes laws, a Legislature that only wants to protect the idiots and punished the rest, and an Executive branch that is pushing for, and getting, permission to ignore our civil rights. It is just a matter of time before the Constitution is "hanging by a thread. "

It's true and called REX-84.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had legislation prepared in the early '80s to cover such a situation.

Most Americans had never even heard of this obscure government agency before columnist Jack Anderson reported in 1984 that FEMA had prepared bizarre "standby legislation" that would in the event of a national crisis "suspend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, effectively eliminate private property, abolish free enterprise, and generally clamp Americans in a totalitarian vise. " Military bases are to be closed down and to be turned into prisons. In any South Americian banana republic, such a document might be called a blueprint for a miltary coup.

FEMA called it "national security" planning.

I agree with all of the posts and the article.

Hitler burn the Riechstad (sp) then passed gun laws, once the populace was disarmed, he and his "SS" took over with a new form of government.

After the Oklahoma bombing happened the first thing our government passed was the "Brady Bill" outlawing certain types of weapons for the public. Funny, I thought it was a bomb attack, Oh well, guns-bombs what's the difference, lets just pass it anyway.

911 cause the passage of the Patroit Act, destroying many parts of the constution and not in our favor. Patroit Act II is on it's way.

What's next?? This for sure is going the wrong way. As Bill said they have had an alternative government plan for many years. The biggest problem, I think they face is that too many Americans have guns and may fight when they see what is happening.

My feeling is that they will "spin" the next "event" and if there are any to follow, the "spin" will be so intense that the stupid mass population will beg for "peace and Safety" at any cost. ----And they'll march right in with their plans, with very little resistance.

I suppose I've lived too long and remember too much. In the early '60s I can remember the conservative Republicans saying that the liberal Democrats were allied with the Communist Party and were (either witting or unwitting) agents of the Soviet Union who were bent on taking over America from within. When that happened, we'd all be deprived of our liberties and have to learn to speak Russian. The great Red conspiracy, it was called.

Today I hear the liberal Democrats (along with some "conspiracy under every bush" folks of various political ilks) yelling that the conservative Republicans, in alliance with their military/industrial/religious complex cronies, are going to take over America and deprive us all of our liberties. The vast right wing conspiracy, some call it.

Maybe with any luck I won't live long enough to be subjected to the next cycle of paranoia. :(

Well here I go at the risk of being the outcast, but I thought the guy that posted first under the article is nuts (bad description but that's about it)

He made it sound like the government is going to make it's own attacks on our own people and blame it on terrorists. Does anyone truly believe that? I don't think we put the pilot's in those planes for September 11th and in no way was that our fault.

I think people who have not been out of this country have a distorted view of how the world turn's because of the picture they are given from their boob tubes. Yes I have family that have been in the same town all there lives and I can say their view is quite different of the world than mine.

So quickly we forget exactly how we got in the position our country is in. Our own countryman turn the tables and are saying it's not terrorists fault? For shame... .

So I guess you're saying General Franks is a big pile of excrement, what are you anti-American or something?

This morning Newsmax.com, the big right-wing website, published an interview with Tommy Franks, the former chief of the Central Command who led the war against Iraq, under the headline, "Gen. Franks Doubts Constitution Will Survive WMD Attack. " The general, now living in Tampa, argues that in the event of a WMD hit on the U. S. , our form of government would go out the window. "The Western world, the free world, loses what it cherishes most, and that is freedom and liberty we've seen for a couple of hundred years in this grand experiment that we call democracy. "

The general drove his point home: "It means the potential of a weapon of mass destruction and a terrorist, massive, casualty-producing event somewhere in the Western world—it may be in the United States of America—that causes our population to question our own Constitution and to begin to militarize our country in order to avoid a repeat of another mass, casualty-producing event. Which in fact, then begins to unravel the fabric of our Constitution. Two steps, very, very important. "

Franks is sure to turn a few heads with his interview, but he's not the only one.

that causes our population to question our own Constitution and to begin to militarize our country in order to avoid a repeat of another mass, casualty-producing event.

Exactly, it will be the people who so felt their being wasn't protected during the first attack and then formed the road blocks and protests later on. It is the people who have nothing to do other than criticize the efforts of everyone else who tries and just points out their mistakes. It will be these people who will initially want to "militarize" our country and toss the constitution so "they" can feel safe again and then turn on their heads and squawk about how bad the government is and that the "terrorists have rights" :-{}

Loony toon time again!

IF FRANKS REALLY DID SAY THAT, senility has hit him abit early.

The concept is ludicrous. We are NOT some two-bit banana republic that is unsure of its civilian control of the military.

But , its the sort of thing some in the country, especially the media could use to stir things up a bit.

Alot of that was taken out of context, twisted and reinserted to fit the liking of that organization.

I can't type real good, or show emotion on a flat screen. I'll give you a couple of things I've witnesed personally.

I was at ground zero the day after the planes hit the towers. One of the first thing you noticed was the burning in the back of your throat, you were breathing in some nasty stuff. Some one holding air sampling equipment came up to me an said you have to cover exposed skin, some of the readings he was getting were so high they were off the chart.

Jon Q Public turns on the 6 0'clock news and hears that the air Quality at ground zero is good, or acceptable.

I had a friend just finish up a tour in Iraq, when he was'nt laughing watching the news media's B. S. reporting he was ready to put his boot through the tv screen. He does not watch the news any more.

I have alot more to say I won't bore you with it. The bottom line is news papers are good for cleaning glass, they , the media have an agenda and the stuff you read is thier interpretation of what you need to know, and nothing more, even if its not true or never happened. After all you can't handle the truth... but don't worry that why we have the media.

No way you ever have to worry about the power of the US military being used against its own citizens...

... unless you were a Bonus Army protester after WW-I

... or unless you were a Japanese-American during WW-II

... or unless you were a Black student trying to get into a school in Alabama in the early 1960s

... or unless you were a Branch Davidian at Waco TX

... or unless somebody sees you as a threat in these cowardly times and falsely accuses you of being an Al Quaida member or such.

Rare instances? Yeah, but they did happen. Your local police department trains its officers in military tactics, has snipers, military weapons, etc. Everybody has seen SWAT-team style raids a hundred times on the news, it doesn't even raise an eyebrow now. Most people don't know or care about the implications of US military hardware being used in police actions here in the USA, so the sight of tanks poking holes in a large woodframe house roused little controversy.

No way you could ever have your property confiscated without due process...

... unless you owned gold during FDR's administration

... or unless you happened to get stopped in the wrong place by the police with a large amount of cash on you

... or unless somebody engaged in drug activity on your property without your knowledge or consent

... or unless you run afoul of the Homeland Security dept

No way you have to worry about your constitutional rights...

... unless you use your First Amendment rights to say something that people don't like, or hurt someone's feelings

... unless you think the Second Amendment means Americans have the right to keep and bear arms

... unless you think the Fourth Amendment was really supposed to protect you against unreasonable searches and seizures. (Ooops too bad you don't get to define what constitutes "unreasonable"... . )

... unless you think the Fifth Amendment was really supposed to protect you against being deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law, and protect you against seizure of private property for public use without just compensation

... unless you think the Sixth Amendment was really supposed to ensure you the right to a speedy and public trial

... unless you think the Seventh Amendment, guaranteeing the right to jury trial for any matter in excess of $20 and ensuring that no facts decided by jury trial can be re-examined in any Court of the United States except by rules of common law, doesn't REALLY mean that the courts get to create law and throw out whatever displeases them

... unless you believe that the Eighth Amendment was really intended to prevent imposition of excessive bail, or excessive fines, or cruel and unusual punishments

... unless you think that the Ninth Amendment really says that the enumeration of certain rights in the Constitution shall NOT be used to deny or disparage others retained BY THE PEOPLE

... unless you think that the Tenth Amendment really says that powers not specifically delegated to the Federal government by the Constitution, or powers specifically denied to the States by the Constitution, are reserved to the STATES or to the PEOPLE.

Naahhh, nothing to worry about. How 'bout them Cowboys?

Rare instances, spacial circumstance... . this is what I was referring to earlier about people who find fault with everything. The government does this wrong, the government does that wrong, why aren't they perfect? Why can't they just do everything the way "I" want it done? You know why? Because you are human, you are not perfect and though you think you know everything... you don't. No matter what decision is made no one is perfect, why do people expect everything to be? Ever heard " You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all the time"?

Those points are fine and dandy but when someone harms you or your family, it will be a different story about the use of force and tactics that could have been used to prevent it from happening to you.

Mike Ellis this response is not targeted directly toward you, just using it as an example in parts.

I don't expect the people in power to be perfect - but I darned sure expect them to uphold the Constitution and defend my rights. When they attack the Bill of Rights freedoms that are my birthright, earned and safeguarded in part by a lot of my family's blood spilt for this nation over the years, I am going to sound off loud and clear and let my politicians know I ain't happy about it.

Heck, maybe I'm wrong, it might be easy to do a Google search and prove I'm full of beans with the items I listed.

1. On the media reporting what someone said;

Befor I got wise and refused to do recorded interviews, there were several occasions when I would be interviewed on tape concerning a trial I was/had presided over. That evening I would watch the TV news, and wonder just what the heck I was hearing. They can take an interview and make it come out as if you are saying something allmost the reverse of what you intended------even to the point of running your answer to question # 4 just after running the interviewer asking question #6.

When confronted, the explaination was usually that the people doing the editing (a 45 min interview will get you about 45 seconds of air time)got mixed up. I soon refused to do any interview that was not live, because the odds were that on a recorded interview my intended point was going to get twisted badly.

Funny that it allways go "accidentally" mixed up so as to further the point of view the TV station was pushing, and NEVER the otherway around.

2. Sure we have had numerous governmental screwups and and abuses. As long a PEOPLE run the government, we will have some screw ups and some abuses; given the opportunity to screw up, the average politicain/bureacrat, etc , will screw up (a nod to murphy's law), but that is a whole different concept than the abolution of constitutional law in general.
