Hi All:

This may not be the right place for this thread, but here goes... ... I frequently see posts discussing which year, generation or configuration of CTD is best and many express the opinion that the 98 extended cab with a 5 speed is best and I admit I am fond of my second gen, but this guy really drinks the cool aid! Oo.

Perhaps there is one to buy that truck at the seller's price. I would bet not. The problem with trying to sell an old truck like that at such an outrageous price is a prospective buyer dumb enough to pay that price would not have cash and no lender is going to give it to him on that truck.

A man with $30k in his checkbook can buy a newer, better equipped truck, for less. A fellow TDR member just sold a perfect loaded '03 with low miles for $21k.

I know these things never sell for book value, but the KBB # has got to be in the $10,000-$12,000 range.

I paid 10k for my 98 with 67k miles on it in early 2011. It is a 24v not a 12v but for 20k difference.....

Theyre not that Holy :-laf

I dispute the notion that the 98 CTD with a 5 speed is the best of the CTD. I had a 95 3500 Dually Laramie with all the bells and whistles of it's time. And yes, it was a great truck. It hauled my 5th wheel (then) and my Lance camper (then) for thousands of miles to many places, including Alaska with absolutely no issues. As long as I owned the truck, which was 10 years, it was never in the shop.

I now have an 05, 3500 Dually, 6 speed, which has also been to Alaska and many places. I'm here to say that the 05, which has never been in the shop either, is more than twice the truck of the 95, which is very similar to the 98 in question.

I'm sure that the 2013 is twice the truck of my 05. It's all relative.

Yep, me too. The six speed NV-5600 or even the later German designed six speed are twice the transmission the five speed was.

The 12 valve is considered by many to be the best engine but if the torque curve of a 12 valve is compared with any later 24 valve, the 24 valves produce maximum torque from 1500 or 1600 rpm all the way to 2900 rpm. The 12 valve torque peaked at 1500 then tapered off meaning it really didn't produce a lot of torque from 1900 rpm up to readline.

Yeah, I know. Some will be outraged over reading that little bit of truth.

Back the truck up!! Are you implying something good may have come about from the tree huggers demands for cleaner air???:eek:

Outrageous! I pity the fool that pays that price. I'll stick to my '09, which cost less for way more truck and fewer miles!

Cheers,
