Duramax question

I know a guy who just bought a 2004 Duramax and he tells me he also bought a Hypertech box for it. I ask him how many miles is the Duramax warrantied for? He says 100,000 miles. When I mention that if something goes wrong with the drivetrain and GM finds out you have a fueling box your on your on.

He gets defensive and says: "Hypertech told me it won't affect my warranty", and I can take a lawsuit out if GM refuses to fix it! It took all I had to keep from LMAO. I hung up the phone after our converstion and thought : Won't affect your warranty, now where have I heard that before?

Don't you love these morons who are gonna to "take out a lawsuit"? He's gonna sue GM? Right!

In my experience people with legitimate problems are almost always screwed by the legal system, while the lawyers and judges smile all the way to the bank.

One of the guys I work construction with has been fighting with Dodge for over a year and half to cover the steering parts on his 2500 4wd pickup. He keeps taking out this stupid comsumer notice the aftermarket parts companies lobbied to get passed federally to "protect" the consumer. All the dealer had to do as well as the Regional dodge rep was list the severe angle caused by the additional height of the lift kit put the truck out of stock design and put undue stress on the track bar, steering box, frame sectionm around the steering etc. They also sent him away with a full dissolution of the trucks warranty as he has exceeded the stock tire size by over 20%. He thinks he's going to win in appeals court. He has already spent over $3000. 00 with an attorney and has nothing to show for it but a paid in full lawyer. Yep, you guys said it best, you are your own warranty and the lawyere are the only ones who win in the end.

We have our own equally dedicated "I'll beat 'em to death with Magnussen-Moss" bunch right here in THIS group as well - get more ropes and square rocks. we'll need 'em...

He'll spend more of his money and time suing than if he just forked over the money himself to fix the repair... . If you want to bomb, you have to be ready to say 'Screw the warranty'..... yeah it sucks, but I have more fun bombing than worrying about the dang warranty.

"but I have more fun bombing than worrying about the dang warranty. "

AMEN! ;)

Preach it brother! ;) I genuinely feel for guys who spend big bucks for their trucks, THEN feel they hafta WAIT 100,000 miles or 7 years to then make it the way they REALLY wanted it all those miles and years...

What's so hard about understanding this? If ya wanna play, you'd better be ready to pay!

As we used to say back in the musclecar/speed shop days in the late 60's - Speed costs money. How fast can you afford to go?

If I break it, I'll pay for it.

"What's so hard about understanding this? If ya wanna play, you'd better be ready to pay!"

Well Rusty, I realize that was a rhetorical question, but I'll answer it anyway for the "rhetorically challenged"... ;)

RESPONSIBILITY for our own actions has been replaced by...

Lying about mods we have made, or what abuse we applied that REALLY caused the failure we are seeking to get repaired FREE under warranty - cheating if need be by REMOVING those mods prior to returning the vehicle to the dealership for warranty service - and then crying great tears as to how we were "unfairly treated" when the dealership determines the REAL cause of the problem, and DOES refuse warranty repair or replacement...

These acts usually are done by the SAME guys that will SERIOUSLY overload their trucks, then take them out on the road - endangering not only THEMSELVES and THEIR family members - but all who happen to be traveling near them at the time...

It's called "wanting to HAVE my cake, and eat it too" - or screw the world, I want to do it MY way, then do my derndest to force someone ELSE to pay the price for MY poor judgement...

Clear enough? ;)

Gary,

Couldn't have said it better. I am sure I cold have managed it much less politically correct, but I try to keep the colorful phrases out of posts.

Just for those who think my "buddy" will win out by going this way, WRONG!!

I talked to him last night after reading this post to see how things were going. He found a friend to put the truck back together enough so he could drive it and he tool it off to the local dealer for trade in. He posted an ad in the local paper about the problems the truck had and thanked the dealership (which he bought it from in the first place) to give him such a fair trade in towards a newer model. To date, he said the truck is still sitting on their lot. He has wasted not just hours, weeks trying to fight this. I reminded him that when he traded the truck in, the only person he has ended up hurting is the poor unknowing next owner who sees the truck as a good deal and knows nothing about mechanics. The damaged steering box section of the frame was welded back together and the stock parts were put back onto the truck.

I told him in not too kind words that he is more of a crook than the dealer for covering the repairs he caused himself. I really hope no one gets stuck with the problems from some jerk like him doing crooked crap like this. It would be nice if people would just take their licks and quit trying to pawn the problems off on to others, especially when they did it to themselves!!!

By the way, he has already installed the same brand lift kit on his newer truck, (skyjacker) along with the 38" tires he took off of his old truck. How damn ignorant can some people be?

Unfortunately, I flunked "politically correct" back in high school - but got straight "A's" in "speaking clearly and to the point"...

Doesn't help make a fella popular I guess - but NO ONE doubts where you stand on an issue... ;)
