I have a 98.5 that was running fine when I shut it down. Couple days later I went to start it and it will not start. Rolls over, and the fuel pusher pump goes to 20# then will drop to 0# after cranking for a bit. When you release the key, fuel press. goes to 20# and stays up. The engine does not hit a lick.

Thanks Larry

The pressure is acting as it should. The VP 44 does not like high pressure at start. So the ecm will turn power to the lift pump off, if truck does not start and you release key to run position the lift pump will run for about 20 seconds. You can try cracking 1 2 3 injectors and crank engine to see if you are getting fuel. Also go to Bluechip diesel site there are lots of info and instructions on how to hot wire injection pump to check it out.

klcammie, Thanks for the info. I don't believe I told the story like it happens. I used to get about 10# fuel pressure when I turned the key on, then back to 0#. When the engine started it would pressure up to about 16-18# and remain there while running. Now I don't get the 10# for the 3-4 seconds of what I call Pre-prime. But I do get the 16-18# when I turn the key to start, for about 25 seconds. Could air in the filter be causing this as I replaced the filter, bled the air and started OK. Thanks

Sounds like the ECM is doing it's thing. As for the "pre-prime" there could be air in the line to the gauge. The "pre-prime only last for about 3 seconds. If truck is starting a nd has good pressure I don't think there is any problem. Run it for a while and see what happens.
