to make the story short my 2005 dodge ram will not start or sometimes it will but with a litle spray in the intake i can get it running. it has a rough idle and sometimes i think its missfiring on some cylinder.

how to know if its a pump. pressure valve or injector failure?

i looked around and i dont really get everything staright.

in middle of the rail where the tubes to the injectors come from its a valve

pressure valve if im right? how can i check that?

in the end of the rail at the back of the engine its something how to check that and what is it called?

and in back of my cp3 i have something to what is that called and how to check it?

tomorrow my friend told me to join him he had something that plugged into the returnside of injectors i dont know if his gauge will fit but we maby give that a trie.

what should the pressure from my cp3 be when cranking?

what pressure do i want when the engine is running on idle?

please explane to a newbe!

havent worked with cr engines before i just know i will be playing around with

dangerous hig pressure.

First off, STOP USING THE EITHER BUNNY!!! Real chance of explosion there. If you must use a starting aid, use WD-40.

Check for codes. If there is a low pressure problem the ECM should throw a code for it.

sometimes it starts without spray. and when it needs spray its very little like spray for one sec or less. i have no codes thats way im so confused. but can someone explane how to check those valves and what they are? and tell me what everything is and what it does.

another thing is it somehow to plug in cummins diagnostic tool to our engine ecu? couldnt find a port if there is one how does it look i know of 4 diffrent cummins on bigger trucks but how should this one look if it is possible

subodh, one thing I know for sure the thing on back of the CP3 is the Fuel Control Actuator (it contols how much fuel goes into the rail) when going bad they can cause hard starting and rough idle. But so do a bad injector(S).

You can pour 2 cans of ashless outboard motor oil into the tank(fill tank) if it starts and runs better it is your FCA.

The other two not sure but you should have pressure relief valve and I believe a rail pressure sensor (that would send data to the ECM).

ive checked the fca or i heard the rattle your talking about and the o-ring seals in good shape.
took the bolt out of the pressure relief valve and no fuel came out or a little from the pump returnline but not from the valve and the truck sometimes when hot start after like 4-6sec cranking.
so that makes just injectors to blame right?
almost 115. 000 miles so the can be pretty bad at that milage right?
also tonight when cruising home my engine light came on and the truck died for half a second,
code is p0251 - pump regulator controll (my smarty told me)

but the injectors can make this right? the truck feels ok when it runs feel the power really can hear my turbo but i have no gauges will install now after i get everything in good shape.
