Smallest car you've ever pulled out (changed name)

My first catch. Someone and his girlfriend had the idea to drive their ford escort out on the beach in Corolla, NC this Saturday. It would have been OK if they were the gonzo attack, try anything types. But no, I think Mr. & Mrs. Polo Shirt and Khakis were just cruising around an tried to mosey onto the beach because they saw trucks and suv's doing it. Anyway, I hooked the tow strap to the little tow loop they provide under those cars and pulled them back to the pavement in 1st gear, 4hi. I was spinning too much in 4lo. For some reason, he had his wheels turned so they were plowing sand, but the Cummins kept on tuggin. I was glad to help and glad to save them about $70 for a tow truck. The stock Michelins do OK in soft sand. I rarely air down, but 315's would be nice.

I bet you would have felt more of an impact from a fly hitting the windshield at speed than you did from that lil-ol thing dragging behind you.



I'm thinking a minature horse that didn't want to go would pull harder if hooked to the truck. (lol)

Pulled out a Chevette with a 10 ton dump truck. Did not have proper recovery strap so just used a 1/2 '' poly rope. Needless to say , the clutch did not slip

I'll never forget the day I pulled a gasser 2500 extended cab towing 2 jet skis out of the deep stuff at Oregon Inlet, IM my Jeep Wrangler:--) :--) :--) :--) He was so deep the axle tubes were down in the sand.

Unhooked from him and pulled away, looked in the rear view to watch him bury it again I went back and hooked up again and pulled him all the way down to the flats at the south end of the inlet. It looked crazy, that tiny jeep pulling an ext cab long bed with the trailer. The guy pulled out a wad of $$$ to pay, but I wouldn't take it.



Had a little rain out there reduaram??? That storm a couple weeks ago blew part of the roof off my shed.

I've pulled out a few people at the inlet myself. Powdery, dry sand there.

The rain has been bad, but the wind blew the roof off a cottage about 100 yards down the road from me.

Last winter, I pulled out a gasser old chevy 4x2 that slid off the road to a shallow side, Used my strap and a length of chain and hooked it to my "D" ring from Warn to my hitch. My truck was on a layer of sluch/ice on the shoulder, and in 4 wd, I yanked him right out, no problem.

It was fun pulling a Pontiac Fiero off of Normandy DZ on Ft Bragg(some joe and his girl). I have no idea how he got it that far into the sand. He actualy started complaining when I pulled him out sideways. My 93 W250 had NO problem. I had the added benefit of taking the girl home .

Hey my parents live in Corolla. I know exactly what you mean. Every dumb. ss thinks that if they can just get past the first 30 yards, they can cruise the beach. They always get stuck. My first ever pull was at the same place. A 26 foot RV tried to go out on the beach and smoked his transmission. A guy in an F-150 (you know the dumb Ford people) thought we'd need to hook two trucks up to get the guy out. I laughed, put it in 4-low and the tach never got above 1000.

These trucks will pull almost anything.



There is a hill on the way to my place that has about a 12% grade (my estimate -- someday I'll measure it). It's steep enough that I shift to low range with the 1995 truck (automatic transmission) when I'm pulling a trailer up it in order to save the torque converter.



One day, on the way home, there was a Chevy S-10, towing a boat, stopped half-way up, unable to proceed. Backing down the curvy hill was not an option with that small truck and (probably) no trailer brakes.



I backed up to him and foolishly allowed him to hook up the nylon tow strap to his truck. He had it on something sharp and it broke immediately.



After I tied it to his frame, my truck pulled him and his boat up the hill. He didn't even offer to pay for the broken tow strap, which was due to his poor hook-up. Oh, well. Chevy drivers... What can you say?

I go down to Waves once per year, even when I had the 4X4's I refused to go on the beach. I have never driven on sand, and the price of a tow job scares me, so forget it. I can walk from the campground. But if I had known you guys back then I would have loved to head out to learn how do run the sand.



now I only buy 2wd trucks (I have a Jetta TDI for the snow)

I pulled a BMW 5 series out of a ditch this past winter in northern Minnesota. When I rolled up, a Chev 1500 Z71 was struggling and making all kinds of noise that sounded like it was trying to pull something. He ended up ramming the chain and ripping the bumper off the BMW. The BMW guy told the Chevy guy to get stuffed. I asked if I could try, and promised to be gentle on his little car. 4 low and first gear - just idled her out onto the road. The BMW guy was floored at the sheer ability of touque and maintaining traction.



But more fun was this past weekend. I had this big stump in my yard I wanted out. So I wrapped my logging chain around it, had my truck parked on the paved road, put her in 4 low and first. Tightened up the chain and let the clutch out. The Cummins, being the mule that these engines are, just yawned and proceeded to slowly turn all four of my 35 inch tires on dry tar. No hopping, just nice slow, smooth, tire melting torque. Finally broke the stump loose. Left some nice black holes on the road. My wife was amazed at the show of power the truck has. This is my first CTD after driving two Powersmokes. I was very impressed with the truck, as always. We really have some good trucks with these Dodge/Cummins, don't we? I will never own a ford or chev diesel again.

Didn't get it

On the farm where I work, he has a neighbor that helps us out some. He was mowing ditches with a 4020 and a 15' batwing mower. He got in to far in a ditch (I never go in that far on that one because it always has standing water in it in the very bottom, grass hides it some) and got stuck. I was heading to Iowa and had to turn around to help him. He was half way between where I was at and the shop is 12 miles away.



Hooked up to him and was doing fine 'til the wing bit into the side of the ditch. Had him back up to try and raise the wing. No go. It kept wanting to slide me into the ditch when pulling on it. I didn't want to jerk on it very hard since I just had a light chain. I still had a six tires spinning though. Asphalt doesn't like that much when it's hot out. :-laf



Wound up having one of the neighboring farmers (who's also a friend of my boss, great guy) pull it out with his loader tractor. Even the TRACTOR had trouble pulling it out for the same reason, but he finally got it.
