Wayne,

Looks nice...where's the smoke? Just kidding. I cook complete meals, veggies, meat, and gonna try desert. Thinking cobbler will be covered as not sure how smoked cobbler would taste, but still...

Congrats on the new grill. FYI, your first order at Pit Boss website is 20% off... I bought HD cover and pizza stone.

Cheers, Ron

Now you get to make your neighbors jealous with all the yummy smells! I can be out back by the greenhouse or the chicken coop and catch those random lovely aromas coming off the smoker

That was the first ramp up for the burn off. TF make the joke about my wallet flying open in a wind storm- well the weather took a dump and the wind really kicked up as I was getting started. Nonetheless it maintained the 450 +/- 10 for the hour. I did dial it back to smoke and it sure did.
Here’s your smoke shot

I’m trying to decide what to make first. It’ll be simple like burgers or a steak.
Ron I got the matching cover now because it’ll be outside and I want it covered right away. I will get a second probe.
Guys- thanks again for the guidance and input.
If I were able to see that model 340 Rec Tec, I would have had a tougher time deciding. I thought this was a good deal.

Thanks so much Ron. I guess I’ll get a pellet blend to start off with. How do you change out the pellets for the different cooking jobs?

I'd imagine your rig is similar to my Camp Chef in the ability to dump the feeder hopper if desired. I've learned to keep the feeder hopper level low if cooking short dinners like burgers or steaks. That way if you do decide to change out it's less to dump.

A good blend is a safe bet until you get acclimated to the different flavors. I've got a bag of this on order to try.

Yes it has a dump chute.
I was able to find one Camp Chef to look at but it didn’t use any temp probes. That was one thing I wanted. I would have liked wi fi too but I compromised.

There must be different makes? Mine does have 2 temp probes. It does not have wifi but honestly from my POV it's overrated. When I'm cooking something (anything) I never stray far. I'm too anal I guess.

Either way, I'm sure you'll dig the new rig Wayne. Since acquiring mine I've literally used our gas grill 2-3 times. And we grill out weekly.

Congrats, Wayne! Just for the record, I spent a fair bit of time researching pellet grills today:p
Complicated by the fact that I am now quadruple hell-bent to buy US made. Sure narrows down the choices in a hurry. I'll have to dwell on it a while.

Wayne, you can start doing youtube videos like Cowboy Kent, now!:D

I ain’t got the polish like Kent has- no way. Believe me the USA thing wore me down. I just couldn’t swing it. Rec Tec would be it BUT you know the electronics and feed and fan etc will still be “imported”. I also liked the amount of stainless content rec tec has. Maybe next time?
Speaking of Kent, ever look into that Hasty Bake grille he uses?

I knew of Hasty Bake but didn't look into them because I know getting a decent bed of coals going takes time, and would relegate it to holidays or events. Now, pellets offer the quick easy startup of gas, with the flavor of wood smoke.

Friends,

Today is Vivian's birthday and fixed her dinner on the Pit Boss. Rib eye steak, grilled shrimp marinated in Italian dressing and a little Creole seasoning, and cauliflower painted with olive oil and a little garlic powder.

Whole meal on the pellet grill in about 45 minutes.

All done, time sing Happy Birthday to my sweetie.

Cheers, Ron

What a great birthday, home cooked food by yours truly! I couldn't think of a better way to spend it.

I just grilled up some sirloin tips using a new to me flavor. One session is a little premature to jump to conclusions but I may just have a new fav.
