Was sitting here looking at the first gen stuff and we had a pretty good jolt. Really made the house move but didn't last more than 5-10 seconds. Guess I'd better go take a look around the house.

Just got a report - was a 4. 0 and was centered right here! No damage reported, just felt strong because we were sitting on top of it! Scared the hell out of the dog!



Always wonder if it was just a small one or if it was a big one a hundred miles away.

Awe c'mon Stan a 4. 0 is not an earthquake in this part of the world. Heck an empty rock hauler bouncing down the freeway makes the windows shake more.

Your right Jay, was a little one. I was here in SR for the 69 quake, really felt the 89 SF quake and was in LA when the big one hit there in 94 or 95. Was only 10 miles from the center of that one.



These little ones just serve as wakeup calls to let us know that one of these days-------------------

Glad I live a couple thousand miles to the east of you guys. All we have is tornados, floods, and droughts. Nothing much jumps off the ground around here uless somone is blasting groundhogs and stumps with dynomite Our stuff flys or washes away.

Here in Connecticut we had an earthquake a few years ago... I read in the paper that someone actually felt it

But that could just be rumor.

I think there's more of a rumble in my neighborhood at about 5:30 evey morning... (when I crank up the CTD)

Not so fast you Easteners. I believe the largest quake in US history was centered in New Madrid MO.

Yeah, you should read a little about that earthquake. Estimated to haven been way over an 8. Then look at your brick house. It will come down on you if that happens again. It's overdue.

Just before the '89 quake I was sitting down to watch the ball game when my dog streaked thru the house and out the back door. Ten seconds later all hell broke loose. I stayed to try to save the china in the kitchen. Pots and pan that were hung on the kitchen wall started flying and of course all the stuff in cabnets flew out. I did manage to save the heirloom china.



The shake time of that quake was long enough, only ten or so seconds. I can't imagine how bad the AK Good Friday quake was, it lasted about two minutes and was a lot bigger. Later that day when the after shocks hit, you could hear them approaching by the sound of fence boards banging together down the street.

Yep, that one was one of the more major quakes we have had. I was at work in a concrete tilt up building and stood in my office door watching the floor roll and the walls move back and forth. Thought that sucker was going to come down! Some of the after shocks were pretty harsh as well.

Wow, had no idea it was that strong up there. I am about fifteen miles from the epicenter but there was little damage around here. It seems the waves traveled deep underground for a ways before finding the right conditions to do surface damage, i. e. the Marina area in SF and the tidal flats in the E Bay. Since our house sits on valley soil I would have expected more damage.



A day before a quake before the '89 one I found a note at home from the PD saying my dogs had been howling all day. Way out of character for them. Next day a quake, they knew somthing. Now I pay close attention to the way they are behaving. Today, if you believe that sort of thing, is what some people call "earth quake weather", hot and muggy. Not a normal day for around here. Hang on

I think the soil has something to do with it. In the 06 earthquake, there was more actual quake damage in Santa Rosa than in San Francisco, it was the fire that got SF.



The 69 quake here in Santa Rosa was a pretty wild ride as well. Was sitting in my folks backyard and the ground started rolling with waves that looked to be about a foot high. (They were probably much less than that but it sure looked like that high) Trees swaying back and forth, crap in the house falling off the walls, etc.
