Smarty and 50HP Injectors

Timing Only Fuel Economy Module

my bro inlaw tried it out lost the engine in his 04 shortly there after and it also ran like crap and he still can't get ahold of them to get things worked out

Iv never heard of it but if i were you iwould go with something a little more known in the diesel world, maybe like edge,banks(overpriced), predator, bullydog,quadzilla. All of these companys make a good 60-80 hp towing module that is pretty safe and relable for a work horse type of truck, and a little seat of the pants driving.

That goes to show that gauges are a must. At least an EGT. Even a 50 horse pressure box will get these engines hot it you are pulling a long grade. It should be a package deal.

So many people are uneducated about boxes and downloaders. They read about them in a magazine or online as to how much power they can have and the huge mileage gains they will get. But the ad doesn't tell them the truth about what could happen. Or that they mess with the overhead and your not really getting 34 mpg.

The diesel tech here in town has seen a ton of trucks come in with the engines cooked. All of them because of a box. One of them probably didn't have a chance. It had a breathalyzer unit mounted by the key. :eek:

I guess I should of stated that the #6 injector burnt a hole through the piston he runs guages in all 6 of his cummins ranging from his baby a 96 to 06 man I wish I had company money and I agree that it is a sad thing that the ads don't warn about egt's or what it might do but if they did that do you think the average joe would buy it?

I was asked if anyone was using this Workhorse module set-up I see from the website infor. that they are claiming that 100 hp, 180 ftlbs. torque and 20% mpg increase if I didn't flunk high school physics that hp=btu's of heat which = fuel& air, and torque = cyl pressures which also takes more fuel and air , mpg's don't match up either one. I figure someone has had experience with it. I'm leaning toward if it sounds so good why haven't anyone been talking about it. any help would be appreciated.

Greetings;

I just (had) installed a Banks Economind diesel tuner, with the PDA option to view the engine & trany parameters that the OEM computer uses. Early into a 5% grade in Tenn. last month towing our 15K# 5th wheel, motor sounding great @ 65mph, then I saw the Torque Converter Slip jump to 67%, oh yea, the foot came off the throttle real fast. Then I realized I was experimenting with my new toy earlier & left it in Power Level 5. Ooops.

EGT was 1200 deg. , that's OK. But without a 'window' into my transmission performance, I could easily have toasted the torque conv. & our vacation, whilst thinking my dear Cummins was humming right along.

I too thought pillar guages were the thing to have, but the Banks engr. convinced me to consider buying the PDA interface instead of the 1-6 position switch. I now feel that was good advice. It was only a little more than triple pillar guages.

I read a recent comment re: "chip" manuf. and Banks was noted as "overpriced". I really couldn't disagree more. Their design & production engineers are available to illuminate and educate the customer. I never experienced such a high level of intelligent service & dedicated customer support. There is no 'bums rush' when conversing on the phone. They'll let you go when they are convinced you're OK with the info or instructions.

Yup, without monitoring torq. conv. slip, is like walking around a barn yard with white shoes & a blindfold.

Safe travels.
