Exhaust Brakes and EGT?

SDF80 filters not available?

I've been reading in my farm papers and magazines about a new product called the Workhorse, which claims to increase fuel mileage and power. It claims to be different than all the other computer "chips", and in fact claims that it is not. The website is www.888luvdiesel.com. Have any of you tried or know of someone who has tried one of these? I've read a lot of the articles in TDR on chips, but this sounds different. I know, if it were meant to be better for the engine, Cummins would have come out with it first! Any thoughts or input? It claims to have a 60 day money back guarantee on it, but I know that guarantees aren't always what they claim to be. Personally, I want all the mileage I can get at $3. 00 a gallon, and could care less about the "power". Let me know what you think.

Interesting... A garaunteed 5 mpg increase... . Not to sure I like the "Request a Quote" part though... Thats always says big $$ to me... Im gonna keep an eye on this one and see where it goes cause an extra 5 mpg would not exactly be a bad thing...

they had a discussion going on over on the diesel stop the other night about this company. I don't think the company has a good reputation. Seems to me someone said the were relabled Dr. P boxes

Just remember that there is no free lunch. How is it that they atomize fuel better? More pressure? Also they refer to other products as a chip? I do not have a chip. I have a box. Also if a competent mechanic can not find it, is it really there? Many of us could give you a list of people who can find it if it is installed. Even with better atomization more air is needed (more available fuel more air needed ect. ) On the other hand if Piers comes out tomorrow and says they will sell it... In their add they do not exactly say what they are doing to get more pressure and how it affects fuel system components. The competition tells you exactly what they are doing to your system. If it smells like b s and looks like bs and goes squish like bs...

Thier website said:
The WORKHORSE produces "substantial" power increases WITHOUT ADDING MORE FUEL to the engine.

Are you kidding me? More power with out more fuel? I know timing adds power, But not THAT much!

And do they count higher pressure as "no more fuel" ??

I would think if the pressure is higher than you get more fuel per given time interval

I saw that ad as well, but the fellow there says it has a 60 day money back promise. I feel if it only gives us 3mpg better, it might be worth it. So I ordered 1 for my 04. 5. I'll let you guys know how it does, good or bad. I'm only looking for fuel mileage, at 550hp I doen't really need more hp, just better economy.

Glad someone jumped and got one, I will be very sceptical until some real world proof is shown

"The advanced diesel technology in the WORKHORSE comes from the same research and development that set 3 Land Speed World Records in a diesel pickup including the current ¼ mile record in a diesel pickup of 154 MPH.

Imagine having your truck performance tuned by the guy who currently owns the “Quickest” diesel on the planet… that is what you get with The WORKHORSE. "

Based on this quote, it sounds like a rebadged Dr. P box. Overall it doesn't sound like its doing anything different than an EZ or VA. Oh, except claiming that it is using technology like "electronical controls" since no one else is doing that. ;)

Direct from the site:

"By atomizing the fuel with higher injection pressure you keep you air-fuel ratios in balance thus eliminating the "over-fueling" effect AND high EGTs.

Burning every drop of fuel inside the combustion chamber gives you increased performance while your exhaust temperatures remain normal... eliminating the added expense of temperature gauges, air intake and bigger exhaust systems. "

This is what they say they're doing so you can safely do this:

"If you can eliminate over-fueling the engine you can eliminate the need for a pyrometer to monitor exhaust gas temperatures"

I hope Piers will give us some reports on EGT's. I have seen high egt's even on low settings on my quad boxes (particularly at 3/4 throttle). I want to see what this does.

WORKHORSE installed. We also have customers that tell us they are getting up to 6 miles per gallon increase at 75 MPH. Normally they would get 14-15 MPG, but with the WORKHORSE installed, they are now getting 19-20 MPG. And… while they are towing they are still gaining several miles per gallon over stock. **Results do vary though because not everyone drives the same and not every truck operates the same.

Who really gets 14-15 at 75mph STOCK? I can get 18 easly 19. 5 on flat surface. Get the TSB fix if you getting crappy MPG first :)

Also, I typicaly like to base products on their website quality and basic grammer , and presentation before considing things (yeah, my grammer sucks, but I'm not selling anything, and I don't care too much on forums)... This is something you all should do for ANY online purchase.

I have been in the web/application design world for years. All the diesel websites look like crap. But they all follow a comming "idea". They have "menus". that are not tossed together. Information is in catagories. They are built realativly the same for the non-edge non-banks companies. Even edge and banks need a professional to do their site BTW, they have [more] money to have things done right.

What I'm trying to say, based on this guys "hack" at the worst sales based website. I wouldn't touch his product with a 10 foot poll. looks like a scam to me. They have their phone number in their URL. The page looks like a "rant" and I'm willing to bet all the "client stories" are all made up.

If you are serious about Internet marking, you have to be serious about creating a read-able website.

"If you can eliminate over-fueling the engine you can eliminate the need for a pyrometer to monitor exhaust gas temperatures"

I think this reeks of Dr. P.

I can't wait to hear more feedback.

Well, it's here and installed. To soon to give a mileage report. First impressions, better bottom end than the TST on 3X3, no smoke what so ever, drivability is good. I'll be towing this weekend, so I'll be able to give more feed back after that. I'll dyno next week with and without the module, so I'll give those results as well. So far the egt's haven't gone over 1000 degrees, I'll see how it is towing. With the twins and no modules, I'm hard pressed to get egt's to 900, so it does get hotter, we'll see how much after I get some more miles on it.

Well it seems to be about a mile to the gallon better empty, I got 16. 8mpg, verse driving with the TST on 3x2 I normally get 15. 5-16mpg. It has less power than the TST on 2x2.

As for mileage towing... . I went to Alaska this summer and averaged 10. 5mpg, towing a 30' 5th wheel, truck & trailer are 18,500lbs. This was towing my flatbed trailer, with a 99 Dodge on the deck, so I can't see it being more drag or heavier than the 5th wheel & we got 10. 48 mpg. So for $700. 00, I'll be sending mine back. I realise I'm not the best driver to test mileage products on, but this is no where near the 5mpg they claimed, I would have kept it had I gotten 3mpg, but not an extra 1mpg & that could have been cause I just could not go as fast as I normally do :D
