Off Roading 79 cj-5

Wtf

I am sorry but that sounds like I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER! It may look "nice" but why would you even want to do this? kinda sounds like a wood chipper.

I like it. So do the dozens of folks that comment and throw a "thumbs up" everywhere I go.
I also have a quieter blower than this one, and a different set-up that fits under the stock hood.
The point is INSTANT throttle response, similar to a big block gasser. Having 2-3psi @ idle means it has NO lag and cools off VERY quickly. no need to sit in parking lots waiting to shut down.
This truck is HEAVILY modified, driven daily, tows heavy, and the wife likes to take it for groceries.
It has 260,000+ miles on the clock, runs 50% WVO, and is driven on 20hr 1000 mile trips 2x a month!
This design allows the turbos/blower to operate independently, so if choose I can pull the drive belt and run on turbos only anytime, with no other changes needed.

soo sorry

You absolutely know what you are doing. i would have never thought of this setup. Are you some sort of engineer?

You can see it in person the 28th @ "the diesel shop" in Preston CT. it will be dynoing there. ;)

Just an old school style hod rod type who loves huffers and bug catchers. :D

Like I said I do have a fairly quiet version but prefer the old school look/sound on this truck.

I seem to recall many years ago that the Japanese were doing a "not so agressive" turbocharger/super charger setup in their delivery trucks. As you said, virtually no turbo lag.

This one is loud. I do have a nearly quiet one that fits under the hood, but I like the bug catcher.
Some of the noise is the video though. its always louder on vid.

cops actually like it and wave when they see it.

"Hey Ethel, DID You See....? Yeeaaaah I did"! The STREAK!

DCreed!

That is one Screamin Zonker!

OUTSTANDING Work!

That "Bug Catcher" has got to vacuum up alot of road dirt. How often do ya have to change the oil?

Very cool. I'm already deaf in one ear, so the noise wouldn't bother me. I'm interested to see what it does on the dyno.

I seem to recall an Air Cobra plane that had supercharging but no turbocharger..... they didn't fly worth a crap above 25k feet... ... the later KingCobra had both and was a much better flying plane, but too late to really make a difference in WWII. Of course, as gear heads go, someone turbo'ed it and they started racing it, as the mid-engine design really would handle well... ...

Planning on taking it up anytime soon? It sounds ready to take off!!! :-laf

some is good so more must be better right? ive seen these setups before and i dont know if its as great as everyone thinks it is. Dcreed may i ask why the compound turbo's and not a well sized single?

ok, i went and looked again at the pics and you definately took a different approach then what i have seen before. it looks to me like the blower is parallel to the twins. is that correct? what did you do to accomplish that? why go this route and not a more traditional path?

the blower and twins arent parallel or entirely compounded but the blower feeds the turbos which compounds its boost until the turbos start to draw beyond the blowers capacity then the bypass opens to allow extra air to the turbos.
I use this set-up because it provides outstanding throttle response and limitless top-end.
I'm daily driving Mach 7 injectors (240hp) with a P7100 nearly smoke free and avg 16-17 MPGs. It still tows and works like a truck.

Mach 7 injectors and a P-Pump with no smoke pretty much sums it all up to me... . the system works and looks cool as he!!. I like it!

This is too cool for words. . I would assume that all of the claims are correct. . Compound turbo-blower supercharging has been used many times in the distant past. Detroit Diesel had a similar setup with the "Silver Series" engines in the mid 1970's, A roots blower in the V of the 6 or 8 cylinder and 1 or 2 turbos blowing into the face of the rotors. Worked awesome for those notoriously lousy low end engines. Transformed those two strokers into quite a tractable unit.
